If you can find a hat of the same size that you want...it's a piece of cake to figure out the pattern... It's knit from the brim up on circular needles..garter stitch edge, decreasing after an inch or so to get the proper dimensions for the head....then knit straight up and decreased by the psso method every other row and finished. Trimmed with crocheted flowers. You need to figure out your gauge and measure a hat of the correct size. I made a very similar one a couple of years back. One of the tricks it to use double yarn and knit tightly so the brim has substance and will curl up. Linda C

Reassure your grandmother that there are people who have Women's Weekly from the 1970's. (But at the moment, I cannot say for sure whether I am one of those people or not.) I DO have a stack of old Women's Weekly magazines - and they MIGHT be from the '70's - but I cannot look for them at the moment. I am too sick to move my head very much - and I do not know exactly where to look in my overflowing "spare" room. The box containing the magazines is buried under a pile of other things - somewhere in that room. Have you checked on eBay? Does anyone else have a copy of that particular magazine? I just finished making a hat and scarf for my daughter in a basketweave pattern. It uses a K5, P5 pattern, but I think you could easily adapt it. Or even leave it the same, that should still look fine. I used black microspun and edged it in black fun fur, but I'm sure it will still look fine without the fun fur.
