Need advice before purchase Trane hvac and all new ductwork
Comments (12)crazy these are my minimum specs for a new HP system. both outside and inside units should be replaced to have a properly matched system. 15 SEER, 12.5+ EER, 9 HSPF best matching VS air handler full BTUs in both cooling and heating for your rated size R-410a refrigerant(same as Puron) scroll compressor preferred electronic demand defrost preferred thermostat with "dehumidify on demand" feature staged backup heat strips new and correctly sized refrigerant lineset you want a thorough inspection of your ductwork system. size, overall condition, supply and return lines, insulation qualities, leak test, etc. any hot/cold spot issues in your home should be addressed. I would only use authorized dealers for the various brands that provide quotes. see mfg websites. I would not have either the XL16i or AmStd counterpart Heritage 16. I would stick with the XL15i or XR15. I would also look at the AmStd Heritage 15. I am not a fan of two stg equipment because of added upfront cost and marginal improvement in comfort and operating cost. Look at the PerfectFit media cabinet over the CleanEffects. IMO Good Luck!...See MoreTrane Unit Blowing Normal Temp Air
Comments (1)From what you stated, it could be that the compressor is not operating when there is NO cooling. If you go to the outdoor condenser, you should be able to hear whether the compressor is, or is not running. (If) there is a leak it should have been located & fixed by both the first & second tech, yet neither did anything but add gas. The compressor is probably HOT & going off on the 250-F limit switch. When running, the temperature of the compressor discharge line should be taken, & be less than 225-F. If you really want to know how well your A/C or heat pump is performing: AC TROUBLE SHOOTING DATA Age of unit, Tonnage & SEER &/or EER Rating __ Square Footage of home & major city near you ___ "ALL TEMPS in FAHRENHEIT -F" Outdoor condenserÂs discharge-air-temperature ___ Out-Door temperature: __ Condenser air temperature split __ Indoor Total-ESP All Airflow Velocities in FPM: _______ I will convert to CFM: Suction line pres. __ Suction-Vapor line temperature: ___ SST - Gage - Suction Saturated Temperature. ___ Superheat ___ Head pres. ___ SCT - Gage - Saturated Condensing Temp ___ LLT - Liquid line temperature: ___ Subcooling: ___ With the information data below and an accurate CFM airflow + sea-level height, I can ball-park its BTUH output Return Air temp DB &, WB or %RH: __ Supply Air temp DB &, WB or %RH: __ Except for the pressures you can take most of the readings for us. Copy & paste the above chart in your Word Processor, fill it out, then copy & paste it in your response to us. My advice: get a low cost humidity gage at a local hardware store & see what the percentage-RH is in your home, I can cross-reference that to the wet bulb depression. Then, perhaps we can provide a ballpark opinion on how well the system is performing. - udarrell Here is a link that might be useful: A/C Superheat & Subcooling Trouble Shooting Procedures...See MoreGood Price on 2-unit Trane Installation?
Comments (10)Thanks, tigerdunes. This is Weston's wife now, but we've both been researching this. I agree that the pricing seems good from what we've researched. We read about the noise, but is it only 3 decibels? We all leave our A/C on 24/7 so outside noise isn't that big of a deal with OUR unit (it's our neighbor's we'd like to quiet - it's closer to our living space). We also saw that we didn't want the XL 16i. We talked to the salesperson again today and he said he COULD quote us on an XL, but it would be 1500-2000 add'l per unit, and it just seems silly. Our old units are 10 SEER, so we should already see a big change. The thermostat is the XL-600, which DH is not too pleased about. We asked the sales guy about the 900 and he said it would only work with the XL 19i and XL 20i. I think he MEANT to say (ahem) that they throw those in with those more expensive systems. What should we offer him to upgrade, and are you sure it would work? What benefits are there w/900 over 600? BTW, we are not new to programmable thermostats - have had them in two houses for >10 years. We do turn on heat sometimes - ranges from 2-30 days a year. Now I guess we need to call the salesman again and ask if we get heat with this?! Surely that would be included in the quote, but now you've got me wondering. I know we're weird animals down here to not ask about a heater! ;-) Thanks so much for your help!...See MorePurchase Trane AC unit in SW Florida Help
