What a shock! after 28 years! I wonder if Kelly knew ahead of time. she didn't look at all surprised. I think Mark Consuelos could do the job nicely. But my first choice would be Hugh Jackman.

I knew the day had to come, but I sure hate it. Maybe HE can be the guest host once in a while. I'll miss him.

I'm one that won't miss him and was hoping his time would come sooner than later. In past years he's been unpleasant to watch, IMO, in that he says the wrong names of people too often, doesn't know what he's talking about and things need to be explained to him, and at times, talks about himself in the third person (a pet peeve of mind), even if it's suppose to be in fun. He also seems to be impatient with people as well. I think it's time he hangs up the R&K show.

I'd be surprised if Mark gets offered the job. I don't think the two of them (Mark & Kelly) could make it float. He's an okay filler when they don't have a co-host, but would not make a good perm. host, and could also cause marriage issues living and working together daily. I really like Neil Patrick Harris as co-host, but he already has a full plate. Who knows though, it could happen.

Farewell Reg, I wish you well in your future endeavors and in the same breath, glad to see you're retiring from the show - FINALLY. Personally, it's overdue!!

I've never been a regular viewer due to being at work while this show aired but over the years I've always enjoyed him whenever I did see the show. Whether he was with Kathie Lee or Kelly or his wife, he was always enjoyable to watch. Their guest hosts are always good too that tells me that this is just a well-run show and hopefully it will continue on without him.

A live show must be hard work and good for him for knowing when to step down.

say what you will but regis has had a great influence on "hollywood" and quite a few people credit him with their success...

i'm betting the show will fold completely...kelly just doen't have the "moxie" to keep the show on her own...with or without any number of guest hosts...

I'm another who will not miss him. There were a couple of times in the recent past that his 'all about me' attitude was really embarrassing, one that stands out to me was Robert DeNiro. At one point I think DeNiro was wondering why he was there if not to prop up Regis' ego.

I won't miss him. I think he's annoying. He repeatedly talks about being a Notre Dame alum, but if I didn't know better, I'd think he was a high street dropout.

I hope they don't fill the seat with Mark Consuelos. I like him, but not when he co-hosts with Kelly for more than a day or two. I get tired of hearing about "their" issues. I really enjoy it when Neil Patrick Harris and Jeff Probst fill in.

Think I will start a national movement for ANDERSON COOPER!!

his schtick got old about ten years ago for me.

"Future endeavors?" Give the guy a break it is time he RETIRED and in the most not working form of that word. There was such a search for a new co-host when Kathie Lee left..it will be very interesting to see what the Network does. Fold the show are attempt to replace him? It cannot be the same show with out him. They managed to find a young gal who would fawn just right over him, so the show did not change at all when Kathie Lee left. It wouldn't work like that the other way around. Kelly is going to be sad she left her Soap. Like Kathie Lee she can't act. Mark can't either. Lets hope they have good investments.

I'll miss Reeg ~ ~ but the time needed to come. I will join the team for ANDERSON COOPER! He just signed a new contract with CNN, didn't he? But he and Kelly 'click' and I think Anderson shines in that format.

I am not surprised - after seeing Larry King on CNN retire, and others in his "age range" move on it is time for him to retire and enjoy life!

I like Anderson Cooper - I don't think he is "right" for this type of show though.

I don't really have an opinion on him at all, but I certainly hope to be retired by his age!

Here's looking forward to the next stage of his life....

I thought I had heard Anderson was getting a daytime talk show of his own. I have always thought all of these different co-hosts were tryouts for some of them to see if the show could still be viable after he retired. As much money as he makes, I still don't think they could come close to paying some of these bigger stars enough to bring them onboard full time.

I'm not home during the day to watch, but when I am...I quickly turn the channel when Regis & Kelly comes on! SHE is the one full of herself, imho. I never understood her appeal; but to each their own. She's got plenty of endorsements if the show folds!

Regis is NOT retiring from show business or television, just from the morning show, so he's open for any future endeavors that come his way, and you know they will!!!! The guy probably won't retire from work for years to come, unless he's forced to do so for health reasons. As as of right now, he's in decent health. So, again, I wish him well with any future endeavors.

I always liked Regis. I remember back in the 60's Joey Bishop had a night time talk show and Regis was his "second banana." I understand Regis says he wants to travel with Joy after he retires. Good for them! I would never want him to "die in the saddle." I already said my choice for new host is Hugh Jackman. What a hottie!And Kelly's been on for 20 years. Maybe she can go too?

Kelly has been with that show for 10 years, not 20. I'm sure she's quite nervous about the future of the show, and rightfully so. There is no big name that would take the job; it would be a decided demotion for any of the men mentioned above, in my opinion. Except for Mark, of course.

I rarely watched this show, just often enough to have it get on my nerves, lol. But I've always like Regis' personality though I think he's tired out and maybe even in poor health. I wish him all the best.

I really like Regis, I don't think the show will be quite the same without him.
