Very nice! I love that variegated crown of thorns don't you? What is the plant just to the right of it? I bought one at Maas nursery but lost the name.

What do you do with them in the winter? Mine stay out year round, they get hauled in for the night if a freeze is predicted but as a rule our winters are pretty mild.

GROGEOUS Mike!! You know how much I love Jades and succulents, but I have a soft spot for bonsai Jades in particular and I LOVE yours! I don't have much to bring in this winter except for when we get the occasional freeze, which I'm hoping for a mild winter since last year was a record breaking one. I still have at least two months of very warm temps. Wish I can send some of it your way when you need it :o) Thanks for your beautiful pictures as always...I've truly enjoyed looking at them.

Jojo I actually had to move my C. ovata out of the sun this year, they were getting burnt, as I said before we had five nights of temps down to 20F it didnt' even bother the 'Jades' however the soil was very dry. Mine seem to do best when cold. Norma

Mine are really enjoying this end of summer heat, too. Too bad it is coming to a crashing end with Earl tomorrow...though i am hoping that really won't be so bad. I just need to relocate my dormant plants - who have spent most of this dry hot summer outdoors. That's a first for me - they usually spend most of their time indoors in our wet cool summers ;-).

The columnars I keep to use with an elementary school science lesson. I actually have three more at school. I grew the cholla (front center) from a cutting taken when visiting Arizona. I wouldn't say it's thriving, but it's not dying either.

OMG, Nodakgal -- is that even the same plant?! LOL. It makes me shudder to think what the winter is going to do to all of my plants. What kind of plant is it? Is it an echeveria? It looks gorgeous now with the pink and blue and olive.

That plant in the lower right reminds me of my Hesperaloe (False Yucca).
Maybe it is something similar? Or a Yucca?

I'm going to look up hesperaloe and see what I find. My sister gave me that plant and she thought agave but I doubted it.

Happyhartshorne I just knew someone was going to ask that! LOL I had posted the smaller pic last winter/spring asking for an ID. The general consensus was some type of Graptoveria...possibly 'Fred Ives' or 'Debbie". I am leaning towards Fred.

Looking at the pics this morning I forgot a couple others, oh well. and since I posted pics may as well ask another question. the columnar cactus in front of the paddle plant in pic #8 has had issues. That funky looking brown stuff appeared last spring, I didn't know if the cactus was going to live or die. I set it outside once it was warm enough and its grown quite a bit. But what am I doing wrong with that "brown stuff"? I don't know what it is or how to correct it if I can.

What a nice collection of succulents you have put together! Yes, the variegated crown of thorns is nice! Is that your 'mother' Jade in the pictures? My cuttings have done well; no top growth yet, but some roots starting. And those little Aloes are hanging on.

Chris I think that is what it is was Stetsonia coryne? I bought it at Wallyworld as a little itsy bitsy thing. Its grown by leaps and bounds. I've had it for a few years, should have kept track back then... Just repotted it not too long ago because there was a root coming out the drain hole causing the pot to tip to one side! LOL I had to cut it off to get the cactus out of the pot it was tough.

Monadenium hetropodium is what I was told when I got them from another succulent lover. Holy toledo they multiply like mad! Had 2 pots and the pots have sprouts coming up. I didn't know they multiplied! :) I really wish they'd grow straight! ;) Darn things drive me crazy cause they lean. What are those in your pics?

Just curious since ya'll bring these in for months, what do you do with them? Grow lights? Forced dormancy? Fight over windows? The longest mine have stayed in was 2 weeks after hurricane Ike when I couldn't get home. We lost a lot of them, not cacti/succulents/related, but others due to lack of water. Some of the cacti/succulents didn't look happy but survived. Usually it's carry them all in, it gets to freezing for 15 minutes, haul them all back out. I'm afraid we are a bit spoiled, though when pulling weeds and sweating in January I am often jealous of those of you just relaxing and goofing off :)

I particularly love that tall blue one..How tall is that and how long have you had it?..Beautiful..I am glad your cuttings rooted..They should grow much more very soon..The mother jade is not in the pictures...It is at my job in full sun huge windows growing like crazy though..

Thank you for posting yours too..Do your plants like Calif or what? Do they like you? For sure...I love how you have managed to keep the leaves of your jades clean and spot free..You know, those unsitely rot, or fungus spots that make you have to pinch the leaves off..I think keeping your leaves dry in the cold weather helps..Thanks for the tip..They always look like little people..

I think I was at work and couldn't see them then..I think I see Micky Mouse..lol..I only WISH they sold a saguaro cactus here...Weird to think that these thing live longer than us just to grow an arm..I also have that blue cactus..I haven't noticed much growth yet..

Hi Mike, mine are pretty boring right now...they're all green! I'm going to have to wait and post pictures in the winter after the pretty colors show up...I need some cold weather to make that happen, I'm thinking 4-5 more months before I see the NICE colors show up. Actually I get the best color from my Jades and Succulents in Jan/February...Keep you updated!

puglvr is right, here in the summer the jades aren't happy campers. I've given up on them, they don't like the humidity and I've no time for fussy plants.

All my plants fight for the limited window space, unfortunately, with some unlucky guy invariably squeezed out. In the winter indoors, it's sink or swim, as I have no cool room to put them in to induce dormancy.

Nodakgal:

The Monadenium in my first pic may be M. schubei, but I see similar species so I am not positive. With Stetsonia, luckily there is only one species, coryne, so ID is easy. The tall white guys in need of a shave in my second pic I am still not positive of an ID, with conflicting IDs from 3 different forums. But I love their hairy look. The last pic is of Kalanchoe beharensis 'Fang' which I started from a single leaf years ago.

The tall glaucous cactus is what was formerly and sometimes still called Cereus peruvianus. This is actually a 3 foot arm from a 1 foot cutting I took from a huge plant in Florida back in '08. That is my Mangrove growing next to it.

Socks:

Wish I had a dollar store that sold cacti around here! They can get pretty pricy here in the Northeast, when you can find them. Thank goodness for Lowe's, which has some decent ones if you get there early enough.
