Old TV Show in Florida Everglades?

Wracking my brain. Many years ago (40-45???) I used to enjoy watching a show that took place in the Florida Everglades. I remember the man sitting in the back of his little boat cruised quickly over the top of all of the grasses in the water. I remember nothing else.

Someone mentioned the everglades to me this morning and that's what prompted this faint memory. Anyone remember that show?

Definitely not Gentle Ben. I thought about Flipper, but I don't think that was it.

Hey Buck, nice to meet you. I used to get that show when I had Dish Network satelite tv. I highly recommend it. Very enjoyable show. I liked many of the RFDTV programs too. Cool idea to put garden junk/art in the U-Pick Orchard. Have you got anything in mind? When you say you'd like to put stuff in the orchard what do you see? No matter how busy they are, creative people have a need to create. You will find the time, you probably have a slow(er) season, and thinking ahead, you might be able to sell some things too. What kind of orchard is it, if I may ask? A farm stand up north had painted boards that you could stand behind and stick your head through for taking pictures. I think they had a mermaid and a scarecrow and an old fashioned muscleman with a barbell. Fun for the families that stopped there. I'm glad I came back to edit this post, I was trying to remember other things I've seen. In the fall for pumpkin time that place had a corn maze, too. Good luck. Donna

Musicman: wow...Pacific Northwest, huh? Somewhere up by Rainer? I was living in Seattle before I moved back here. I had to live there for work as I am in the technology field. I was there for about 2 years. I have to say, when it is sunny, it is a visually stunning area. However, those days are few and far between. I thought I was going to have to build an ark. It rained for 95 days straight the first year I was there, then stopped for one entire day before it rained some more. The second year was more of the same. Rain, more rain and then some more rain. Oh, and some snow too. When I had a chance for a job transfer back to Florida, I jumped on it. Puget Sound was not my 'cup o'coffee' (a little Starbucks pun...). But, I do know loads of people who love it there. I assume they hate sunshine and love paying $6 for a half a gallon of milk. From a gardening perspective, I was frustrated there as well. It seemed the only things that did well were azealas, ivy, spruce trees and that ugly colored 'cabbage' plant. The faux cabbage plant was everywhere. But, the azealas were huge and major show stoppers. Nothing like we have here in FLA. As for me, I don't think I'll ever leave Florida again now that I am back. I'm still not tired of one sunny day after another.

Keith, Thanks! The spanish moss looks good, but I think it's freeze dried. Even the moss in my garage did not pull through (probably from the lack of moisture), but it was alive well into February so it was very close to the light at the end of the tunnel. I'll definitely be replacing it all in the spring. I've noticed that Chamerops pups show more cold tolerance than the mother plant, I still have no idea why. haha. My guess is that it's because they are closer to the ground. Thanks Trishmick! Sounds like you had a good time too! I hope you have luck with germinating the seeds you collected. I collected some loquat seeds from Florida 3 years ago and still haven't tried them. For some reason I never get around to starting seeds even when I have them right in front of me haha. I'm hoping one day to drive to Florida instead of taking a plane so I can bring back some nice seeds and plants! Thanks Bradley! I killed 3 pygmy palms indoors in the past so I know how that feels. I have found them to be the hardest palms to grow indoors which is weird considering that they are considered pretty hardy palms. For now on mine will definitely stay in the garage over the winter. Thanks for looking everyone! Bananatree94, Thanks for the IDs. You were definitely right on all those bird ID's and possibly the orchid ID too (I'm not sure since I dont know much about orchids!). Apparently Disney does protect their orchids, so they might have been given extra protection, but they were at least 25 feet above the ground, so I dont see how protection would be a very easy thing to accomplish! Someone ID'ed the Jubaea x Butia as a Syaragus x Butia, so it probably is just a very Butia looking Mule palm. Either way, its nice to see some palm hybrids on the property! Lzrddr, I think you might be right about that White Elephant Palm being potted. It does look like there is enough bare room underneath it for it to fit a pot. I did here that White Elephant Palms are somewhat frost tolerant and since the palm in this pic was in deep shade, its possible that it has not seen much of a frost even after last winters low temperature of 28F. Usually Orlando winters are above freezing, but they have not been so lucky with the past 2! Im sure that the Red Sealing Wax palm has to be potted up because even with heat, I dont see how they could survive last years Brutal winter. They can barely handle temperatures in the 40s! Jim, the plants definitely were one of my favorite about Disney! I was happy to see someone else taking pictures of plants so I didn't feel too alone, but plant lovers were definitely the minority! And I could definitely see why you thought the monkey's escaped, lol, the wire definitely looks like a telephone wire! -Alex

It may have been "Everglades". I recall that one was shown around the 1960's.

There was a show in the early 60's called "Everglades". Series description: The Everglades TV show was an crime/adventure/action series about a cop who ran his beat from the seat of an airboat. He was responsible for keeping the law in the Florida Everglades. He would also sometimes have to rescue someone lost in the swamps.

Well, there ya go! Yup, Everglades. Gee ... I don't know why that was so tough for me :-). Yes, it was in the 60s and yes, wanda, that description resonates. I hadn't thought about that show for a long time. Thanks, all!

OH I remember that show and Lincoln Vale of the Everglades!!! *S*

Kinda wish they'd bring back some reruns of that show!

I was just telling my granddaughter about that show yesterday! LOL
The neighborhood kids used to play Everglades! Linc Vale! We'd be running all around the neighborhood on our pretend "air boats"!! LOL

I was thinking there was another show that had a fanboat but it must be Everglades. I do seem to recall a flashing light on top of the fan so it would fit the description. Never watched it much. Were there a couple teen kids in that show? I seem to remember a father and a couple boys on that fanboat often. Maybe the boys got around in a canoe or something at other times. Don't remember for sure. Never watched it too often though.

cynic the one with the 2 boys and the father was Flipper. I believe the father was a ranger.
