Old TV Show in Florida Everglades?

Wracking my brain. Many years ago (40-45???) I used to enjoy watching a show that took place in the Florida Everglades. I remember the man sitting in the back of his little boat cruised quickly over the top of all of the grasses in the water. I remember nothing else.

Someone mentioned the everglades to me this morning and that's what prompted this faint memory. Anyone remember that show?

Definitely not Gentle Ben. I thought about Flipper, but I don't think that was it.

I was just at Universal Studios for spring break! Just got back home a minute before midnight on Easter! I enjoyed the landscaping just as much as the rides and shows! It's like a botanical garden in a way but most of the plants are not labeled. I was amazed by the size of the sengal date palms! It has so many large trunks. Does anyone have any guess to how old they are? There was also an odd looking smaller tree near (next too) the pond with the tropical lily pads in Jurassic park that I thought was neat. It had no or very few leafs and a few exotic flowers that were white with very stringy petals. I wish I knew the name of that one. The star (confederate) jasmine plants planted at the edges of the parking garages smelled amazing (to me anyway) when on the moving walk way. I also noticed a few sago palms with ripe nuts in the planting near all the flags by the animal show and E.T. ride. The sagos looked very strange. The nuts had brown fuzz all over them. I thought that was intriguing. I wonder what the purpose of the fuzz is. T.J.

Thanks for looking everyone! Bananatree94, Thanks for the IDs. You were definitely right on all those bird ID's and possibly the orchid ID too (I'm not sure since I dont know much about orchids!). Apparently Disney does protect their orchids, so they might have been given extra protection, but they were at least 25 feet above the ground, so I dont see how protection would be a very easy thing to accomplish! Someone ID'ed the Jubaea x Butia as a Syaragus x Butia, so it probably is just a very Butia looking Mule palm. Either way, its nice to see some palm hybrids on the property! Lzrddr, I think you might be right about that White Elephant Palm being potted. It does look like there is enough bare room underneath it for it to fit a pot. I did here that White Elephant Palms are somewhat frost tolerant and since the palm in this pic was in deep shade, its possible that it has not seen much of a frost even after last winters low temperature of 28F. Usually Orlando winters are above freezing, but they have not been so lucky with the past 2! Im sure that the Red Sealing Wax palm has to be potted up because even with heat, I dont see how they could survive last years Brutal winter. They can barely handle temperatures in the 40s! Jim, the plants definitely were one of my favorite about Disney! I was happy to see someone else taking pictures of plants so I didn't feel too alone, but plant lovers were definitely the minority! And I could definitely see why you thought the monkey's escaped, lol, the wire definitely looks like a telephone wire! -Alex

Everglades Tomato

I currently have 12 Everglade tomato seedlings. I rent and can't really dig up my yard to grow them in the ground. What size container would be recommended? I currently grow my tomatoes in 5 gal. buckets but suspect, considering their prolific growing habits, might not be large enough. Would it be okay to plant more than one seedling in each container? Can't really afford to buy a dozen containers and the potting soil to fill them.

Two TVs here: 21" in a bedroom and 15" in the kitchen, both tube-type, not f/s. Not used much. No cable or satellite available in the area, and needless to say no high speed phone connection. I'm on this forum usually at 16,400 kbs, occasionally as slow as at 9,600, so I hate it when someone loads heavy pics in their posts. Before the change to digital TV, we got 4 channels (big 3 plus, plus PBS) year-round, though somewhat woozle-ly at times. Since the switch we can get same 3 main ones, three channels of PBS, Fox and couple of outdoor sports channels, but only in the late Fall through mid Spring. So at this time of year I'm largely TV-less, despite extravagant antenna and converter box set-ups. I think the switch was designed to boost cable and dish companies' revenues and completely ignored what it might do to people who for one reason or another relied on over-the-air broadcast TV. However, after a period of adjustment when it felt weird not to have even TV news available, we've adjusted pretty well. Once the seasons change and we can get TV again in Nov., we go on a two-week TV binge, but then revert back to "normal". It's interesting how necessary it must seem to the majority of posters. I feel sure some of the readers here are incredulous that I can live so unplugged, and so contentedly. I am taken aback, in turn, how much you guys are paying for the TV and internet connection services! L

It may have been "Everglades". I recall that one was shown around the 1960's.

There was a show in the early 60's called "Everglades". Series description: The Everglades TV show was an crime/adventure/action series about a cop who ran his beat from the seat of an airboat. He was responsible for keeping the law in the Florida Everglades. He would also sometimes have to rescue someone lost in the swamps.

Well, there ya go! Yup, Everglades. Gee ... I don't know why that was so tough for me :-). Yes, it was in the 60s and yes, wanda, that description resonates. I hadn't thought about that show for a long time. Thanks, all!

OH I remember that show and Lincoln Vale of the Everglades!!! *S*

Kinda wish they'd bring back some reruns of that show!

I was just telling my granddaughter about that show yesterday! LOL
The neighborhood kids used to play Everglades! Linc Vale! We'd be running all around the neighborhood on our pretend "air boats"!! LOL

I was thinking there was another show that had a fanboat but it must be Everglades. I do seem to recall a flashing light on top of the fan so it would fit the description. Never watched it much. Were there a couple teen kids in that show? I seem to remember a father and a couple boys on that fanboat often. Maybe the boys got around in a canoe or something at other times. Don't remember for sure. Never watched it too often though.

cynic the one with the 2 boys and the father was Flipper. I believe the father was a ranger.
