Confused about frozen fish - help?

Aside from the wild vs. farmed debate, which has me even more confused...

I love fresh fish but haven't cooked much of it at home over the years and would like to change that so we have more variety in our diet. I'm not going to have time when my schedule changes in the fall to drop by our local fish monger (yes, we're lucky enough to have one) or Wegmans, etc. to pick up fish just before cooking, so I'm looking at ways to keep it on-hand frozen.

At Costco yesterday I saw their brand of frozen salmon filets, as well as Trident Alaskan Sockeye Salmon wild caught boneless filets. Costo also had raw sea scallops (I love scallops but have never cooked them myself!) and at Wegmans, I saw frozen Tilapia fillets individually wrapped.

These frozen packs seem so handy but I have no clue about the quality/taste. Is it the same as my buying it from the fish guy and freezing it with my vacuum sealer? I'm sure there's a cost differential as well.

What do you all do to keep tasty fish on hand without breaking the bank?

Sue
