I think her handle needs to be St. Therese.

Wow! And just how are you going to repay her generosity to you Dcarch? She is just so darned generous and caring.

I like your honesty about your brazenness!

DC:
You are right, a shamelss manipulator and BRAZEN to BOOT.

You should be ashamed, taking advantage of Sister Teresa.

LOL!!! Enjoy your Wild Rice and anything else that is Wild.

You still didn-t say if you delivered.

Teresa:
Thanks for being you !!!

I still have some Rice left.
Have to think of something good to make.

Maybe simmer it in Chicken Broth ???,
as a side for the Chicken I am cooking today.

LOU

Oh, WOW!
More exciting and artistic pictures coming up,
Right? ? ?

That Teresa is special, isn't she!

Lou, the wild rice is delicious baked.
You could use chicken broth for the liquid.

I baked some in beef broth,
as a side for a beef roast.

Heaven on a plate ! ! !

Wild rice soup is on the menu tonite. Believe it or not - it is SNOWING here! Nothing that will stick of course. Last year at this time I had Sungold tomatoes in planters on my deck and they were loaded with blossoms. I had my first ripe tomato on May 23. That won't be happening this year!

Oh Teresa, You are sooooo kind. I just made wild rice soup the other day. I couldn't wait to get home from Florida just to make some.

Thank you again for your kindness.

Karen

LOL! You guys are too funny!

Rusty, artistic? I don't know. I think what I will be making may gross many of you out. You will see soon.

Anyway, I noticed that the rice came in two different colors and shapes. Teresa gave me the following eplanation:

" Stands of lake/marsh grown wild rice usually have 40 to 50 tillers (seed bearing stalks). The tillers mature at different stages - usually about 3 stages. I think this is where the Native American tradition relating to the harvest comes from. It is tradition to harvest only 1/3 of the crop. In addition one third is left for the wild life and one third is left to fall into the marsh to become the plants of the next year.
When my brother noticed how large the crop was last year, he started to harvest when the first stage of tillers were ripe. There are 4 bags of rice in the box. Two of the bags contain darker, more slender grains. They came from stage one. The other two bags contain rice harvested from stage 3 which are lighter colored and larger grains. This is the rice I sent you in the past. They also came from two different areas of his property (600 acres). And I think when he was toasting phase one - there may have been some beer and poker involved. That may be part of the explanation for stage one being darker grains! :-) I toasted most of stage 3 and there was only a minimal amount of white wine involved!
They are similar but have subtle differences. I'll let you be the judge."

There is so much to learn about this very special food.
