After 5 years, you will see a definite difference. The Goodman will be cheaper to operate, and will keep on chugging long after the Carrier is costing out the yazoo to keep running. If the Carrier had a better warrantee, this difference would equal out, with the exception to Carriers history of using inferiour coil materials. At this time Goodman has a very large market share. Carrier has a slightly larger market share.

Goodman is bottom line, for $450. difference go with the better built Carrier or better yet look at a Trane.Ask for a extended parts warranty ,its still worth the difference.

For many years, I have believed that an extended warrantee was a marketing scam to increase market share. Since Goodman probably sells more residential systems than Carrier, this belief cannot be used. The company has a good product, and probably will last for the warranteed time. The problem with Goodman, is that it is difficult to cheat the consumer with outrageous prices, like some TRANE dealers do. TRANE has a hard won (many dollars spent) reputation that is quickly erroding. Thier marketshare is smaller than Goodman. It has always been smaller than Goodman. This is the difference between the most expensive and the cheapest. You pay much more for a coveted name.
