We don't have a snow blower, just shovels and both DH and I go out and do it together. I've been known to do all of it on my own as well.

So far we have never had much snow to worry about... so we just let nature take it's course and stay home when there is snow around. We don't have hardly any snow left, so we will venture out to church on Sunday... I am so looking forward to it as I think I am beginning to get a bit of cabin fever... but my home is clean clean clean..

We both shovel here. We also have a Bobcat because we have a large area to clear. There are times when there just isn't enough to bother with starting the Bobcat, so we shovel. Then there are times when there is heavy snow and some area's close to the door you still have to shovel. LOL

My DD is a widow (that seems an odd description for someone 34 years old) she has had to learn many mechanical things to do fix it and home maintenance. I admire women that can do so many things men normally take care of. She bought a snow blower this fall. She is out clearing her driveway and side walk after the snows here. The boys (age 10 and 6) are SO jealous! LOL They love the snow blower and want to do it! Little do they know its not fun to be out in sub zero weather! Well in a few years they won't think so anyway!hahaha

She says the same as you, its a pain to drag out insulated pants, sweatshirts,coats, multi pairs of socks and huge gloves and snow boots.

My DS informed me that the snow blower I bought this winter for him to use is not something I could handle. I'm sure he's right. It looks huge, and in any case I'm not arguing. :-)

When my DH was alive he took care of the snow with a walk-behind Gravely.

I do mow the lawn and pump my own gas, though!

If I owned a snow blower I could do it, but we have a shovel and my back can't take it. My husbands back is even worse. He spent the morning in the ER yesterday because of it. We have our two sons living with us, and with some poking and prodding, we manage to get them out the help. Sometimes our next door neighbour will use their snow blower on the main walk next to the street. Just depends on how generous they're feeling that day. I want a snow blower and have mentioned it to my husband. It would make life easier. Even a leaf blower would work with the light snow.

We have a long driveway and have it plowed so we have no snow blower. DH pretty much handles whatever else needs to be done in terms of snow. Sometimes I will help shovel our front walk which is a long set of deep steps - also not conducive to a snow blower. It's good exercise and nice to get outside. For the most part he does the snow work though - which makes sense to me since I'm working and he is not.

DH has Multiple Sclerosis, so he can't even stand unassisted. I am perfectly capable of wielding a snow shovel and brush (for the car). My next door neighbor, a retired New York City Fireman, owns a snowblower and always blows us out. We bought a nice snowblower in 2005 but neither DH nor myself can use it. We sold it this week for $200 (cost us $900). I'm happy to have the space freed up in the garage!

I will say that luckily when he bought the snow blower he kept me in mind. It is basically a walk behind. The only time I can't handle it is if it runs out of gas at the end of the driveway. What a PITA. I always check the gas now. Everyone says its a big snow blower and they couldn't handle it. But it is very easy to handle. Also, I've learned that with the really big snow falls, I don't wait until the end of the snow. I'll go out a couple times during the big snow. I know the snow blower can handle the big snow, but I can't handle to snow blower then.

BTW - I'm done for this time.

We have the kubota with the snow blower which is really nice. Son in law uses it I have plastic snow shovel. I guess I could learn tractor if needed, but SIL won't let me. DH can't due to serious breathing problems among other medical issues. Here in this town most people are pretty good helping each other.

when i lived up north, chicago, i had to do my back stairs that led up to my 2nd floor flat, about 50 steps and my roof top porch/walkway. they were a PIA beause the wood steps were small, even my size 6 shoe was longer LOL and often there was ssoooo much snow that you had to do them from the top down, looking out over the top of them. very dangerous also because there was only a railing on the yard side LOL. sooo glad those days are gone LOL. everything else, my sidewalk to the back, the front stairs to the mailbox, sidewalks to my garage and driveway were done by a snow removal crew my dad paid for. we had several buildings on the block so instead of cherry picking his buildings he paid for the whole block's sidewalks and parking spaces to be done! he is a commercial acct so our stuff gets done first, i usually did not have to walk thru snow inorder to get to work in time. only 1 time i got snowed in and that was sometime in the late 90's just before i moved down to orlando LOL and everyone else was stuck in too for a day. ~ liz

Most of the time I do the walks and porch. If the drive needs it either my husband or one of our sons in law does it with their tractors and blades or scoops. No snow blower here.

I pay a neighbor who has a snow blower to do mine. After he finishes, I go out with a plastic shovel and get the snow away from the garage door and get more snow off the steps and porches.

Like Jannie my husband has M.S. so I do the shoveling, this year we had a lot of snow, so I had someone with a tractor and snowblade to do the driveway, I am hoping we are finished with the worst of the snow !!

I do, always have, snow shovel. But, our amounts are not to bad.

Me - I do! I actually enjoy it - at least most of the time. Usually me DH leaves for work at 5:30 in the morning and I don't think we'd be too popular with the neighbors if we started the snow blower then. Sometimes we do have to shovel the bottom of the driveway if the township has plowed us in.

My snow blower isn't too large and I can easily handle it. If we're expecting a lot of snow ( especially that really heavy, wet stuff) I'll go out a couple of times.

I have shoveled parts of the driveway, but would never have the stamina to do the whole thing. DH usually does it. This last snow our shovel broke and we haven't replaced it yet. Thankfully DH has 4 wheel drive and I have all wheel drive so we haven't had a problem getting out.

Unless it's blizzard-like -- which we had two of last year -- I do most of it, b/c DH isn't steady on his feet and tires very easily. I might get tired before I'm finished, but I actually enjoy getting outside and "playing in the snow". However, if the amount is more than three or four inches, we call the guy who takes care of our yard in the summer. He comes by with his snow blower and has it done in no time. Of course, at least six other neighbors' call him, too, so last year, he was in the area for almost eight hours! Lots of hard work, but he was well compensated!

I get snow jobs you don't have to shovel. But, we do alot of shoveling BS.

Mother Nature or ME. A snow shovel doesn't fit in the hand of SO and I only do what I have to for the dogs to get in and out. But I will say we have a flat driveway and AWD cars so we're not stuck in because of snow.

I'm a 60 year old woman, we have a LARGE, old (read, much heavier than the newer models) snowblower. We have 2 houses.

So far this year? I've almost exclusively cleared both houses. The big machine is no problem to operate, and I can almost always start it with one pull. The timing of the snow this year has been overnight, with DH having to go to work the next morning, so once he's gone, I'm up and out, and clearing our shared driveway, the front walks of about 5 houses and a couple of other driveways. THen, as soon as we're able, we've headed to the country house, where I've cleared the huge wrap-around driveway.

DH DID drive to the country alone this past Friday after work--and cleared the driveway. But that was only because my aunt had died Thurs evening, and I had to stay home to make the arrangements and to start cleaning out her apts.

Interesting question, though--just this past Wed, when the snow stopped, a former neighbor who works for the town drove by. Some of us (women) were out clearing our walks. He wanted to know where our husbands were. It occurred to me, I'd only seen one man out shovelling that morning--but I'd seen at least 6 women. So around here, the guys either sleep in, or go to work, while the women (some are housewives, some are school teachers and get 'snow days') do the clearing.

We have chosen to live in an area where it doesn't snow......well, maybe once every 20 years but it has never stayed on the ground.
I don't know who would take care of the snow but I am pretty sure it wouldn't be me. LOL
