Pictures of some of the socks I've made this month

Thought you might like to see these. The first are for me, Finally!! They are made with the Fortissima Colori Socka Color dye lot # 9070.

This pair is for my daughter who is 21 and loves socks, the crazier the better. The girls at my Thurs. knitting group said they would make great winter socks, since you can't help but smile when you see them!

While we were on vacation this summer, we stopped at lots of yarn stores. I have started naming some of the socks I make after the store/state I bought the yarn in. It makes a nice souvenier that lasts a long time and is useful, instead of taking up space and collecting dust!

Tami - those socks are wonderful. For the second pair did the yarn make the stripes or did you have to change colours yourself?

Hi Tami, those are great. I hate making socks but wish I didn't! I want to know if the yarn is self striping too. The first pair looks very difficult if not.

Sorry folks; I don't know the pattern name, designer, or book or anything about the Christmas tree pattern. This one was a mystery quilt...and all I was told was that if anyone wanted to make another we'd have to purchase the pattern ourselves. But I don't know that information.... Maybe benbel1006 or coalaska could share the necessary information from their pattern. benbel1006 ~ There were only two tricky things about this pattern. 1) moving all the cut pieces home from our meeting without them rearranging themselves LOL and 2) Because seam allowances aren't factored in, not having edges meet as you proceed to add each new piece. (This was hard for me personally since I'm more like a perfectionist and like to have things match) It does keep each block from being exactly like the others...and that's nice! lol

Here is another thing Cindy made, I had scrounged the mold for free and here is one of the molds, the 1/2 head, there is a full head too, that I hope she posts about!(It is about the same size of a real person's head...I perm markered his eyes to make him more creepy!lol!) I could not live with the plant on the floor. After half an hour, I had it back up on the stand. I may look for a stand at half the height when I am able to get out. Now I have to deal with the mess I made in my summer kitchen. I have another cabinet in my sewing room that I can display the owl clock on, most of the other stuff I will just pack away. My next project is my dining room. It is very small and is open to my kitchen. My sons are coming over soon, I hope, to move my china cabinet out of my entry way into to my dining room. I hope I don't have to set on my hands too long. haha I want to thank every one for your help. It has really made my living room so much prettier. I remember one time, Mom asked my sisters and I to come up and restage her living room. You should have heard the discussions we had as we all had different ideas. We did finally manage to declutter her room and it was looking pretty good. I think by the time we got back home, she had everything changed back to the way it was before. I made up my mind if I asked for help, I was going to try the different suggestions. I am so glad that I did. I just love the way it has turned out. I guess I really did not believe that I could get away with not using everything that my kids and stepchildren gave to me over the years. Thanks you again. dody

Stush,yes that one with the seed pods is one of the ones i got from you.I don't do anything special to it. however the one i got from you called euphorbia lactea,croked,i kept hoping it would come back,but it was not to be.The other that says it's a stapelia gigantea,is finally getting it's first off shoot,which is good as i thought that was a goner as well. I lost the name of that one with the seed pods,it got knocked over early on and when dh picked it up he didn't pick up the name tag for it.Oh and i didn't pollinate it myself,that's all mother natures work. I hadn't planned to plant all the seeds from it,maybe just a couple to see what and how long it will take from seed to plant. Would you like me to send you one of the pods,if so,i need you to tell me when to cut them off,or do i just put a paper bag over them til they drop off?? Anyone know?? By the way the one with the pods bloomed for several months this year,every couple days there was a new bloom.Same with one of my echinopsis ,i thought that thing would never quit blooming this year.. Oh and for those of you that are "soil snobs"No offense meant,LOL i don't use those self mixed concoctions you all do,i use whatever i have on hand and add a little pearlite,i measure nothing.just throw it all in a bucket,mix it up and plant whatever i'm planting. I always tell my friends i follow Mother Nature guidelines!!!! Works for me and as long as it does,i won't change. Tami, SOME of the socks you've made this month? It takes me nearly a month just to make one pair. Very nice. You got the striping to match up perfectly. I bought a couple of skeins of self striping yarn, same dye lot, but I'm kind of bummed out because I lost quite a bit of one skein trying to get to the same spot in the variegation so they'll come out the same. There are so many things swimming around in my head (and filling my spare room) that I want to make. I bought some really wild sock yarns, enough for about 8 pair, that I want to make. Funny thing is, I usually don't feel like making socks except in the winter, which is when they should already be done! Do you have a favorite sock pattern?

Has anyone heard of knitting socks with two circular needles. I just read about this method of course I have not even tried a pair of socks yet. Are their any very simple patterns.

mirren & Clare, yes, the yarn did all the work! I'm to lazy to do my own striping and have to finish in all those ends.

Donna, we spent a lot of time on vacation this summer. While my husband drives, I knit. I had to pull out at least 2/3 of the skein on the pair I am currently working on for my sister-in-law for Christmas to get them to match. On the pair above for my daughter, I pulled out about Â½ the skein. Your yarn is not lost, just wind it in a ball and work with it later in the socks. That is one reason I work on both socks at one time. That way I am sure I have them both started at the same place. Socks are great take along projects, since they fit easily into a mid size purse (even my small one with seperate compartments!) My favorite pattern is Ann Norling's Basic Adult Socks. I have almost memorized it, I've made so many socks this summer!I am almost ready to start the heels on my sister-in-laws socks.

Deb, The first pair are named "MINE"! Out of all the socks I've made, this is only the fourth pair I get to keep. And that's only because I made the tops 8 sts bigger around for my fat leg, so they are to big for my daughter to claim!
The second pair I guess are "Smiles" cause the ladies I knit with said they would make you smile every time you looked at them during a dreary winter! Ann's pattern is pretty simple, and gives you a choice in 3 different yarn weights. Working with double pointed needles takes a little bit of practice, but is worth the work to learn. Start by casting on 30 sts on ONE dbl pt. then even distribute them on the other two needles, keeping the fourth as a working needle. Join the beginning and end and just keep working round and round until you get comfortable with working with the dbl pts. Use scrap yarn and strait knit until you do. Then play to your hearts content with the socks!

I use one long circular now to make my socks with. I have heard of doing them on two, but haven't gotten the book and tried it. I just do one sock on each long circ. Obviously, I have several sets. Mostly because I have so many projects going at one time!

Tami, DH and I are going to be in the car for many hours this coming weekend and I am looking forward to uninterrupted hours of both knitting and crocheting. That's almost as exciting as actually getting to go somewhere! I printed off the instructions someone posted on another thread for knitting small circumferences with two circulars and I'm going to give it a try. I have always used dpns, but they are still awkward to handle.

Tami how long does a pair take to make? i would love to make some for my nieces this Christmas. They all got knitted scarves last year and I was so proud when they wore them to their grandmother's funeral. she could knit and sew beautifully and helped me alot i still reach for the phone to call her when i get stuck. she passed away Dec 24 2004 so it is still fresh

Deb, the lady who owns my local yarn shop says that if she knits non-stop she can make a pair in a weekend. If I just knit when I feel like it or have the time, it takes me maybe two weeks? I don't knit as fast as Holly does, but non-stop it might take me 3-4 days? I don't know, I've never tried to see how fast I can do a pair! I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Sounds like you have some wonderful memories.
