I'm growing Red sheild for the 1st time this year.Its about 10 ft tall right now.I was told by my trader it would bloom about Nov for me& the picture she included shows pink flowers red centers.I also grow a roselle.same leaves,but are held different and it is setting buds now& will bloom in october.I useually top it at 2 ft and keep topped till july so it grows more like a round shrub.I didn't this year and have plans with bread ties on my belt loop to secure to fence.its starting to grow "wavey".when topping it it does seem to have alot more branches and a fuller plant. I grow castor beans.My reds i traded for didn't sprout,but was told they are the only short ones.I grew my greens this year,but have some pink veined& some carmine that have purpleish leaves and the stalk is deep purple.I'm in zone 8b TX and mine actually return& so do the seeds that fall off that I miss.I had a 21 ft plant last yr. grew in old compost pile that I moved and the bed was actually raised.The trunk was 9 in diameter& when I chopped it down.....it grew back to about 4 ft before frost got it.I couldn't even reach the seeds,but the seed was big like a red runner bean.

I Googled "flat stemmed lily", and I found this thread. I'm glad I did because I have one of my own. I KNEW I didn't plant this last year! Looks like it will bloom!

There's a lot of "tools" to saving money and being frugal and coupons are only one tool. Some use it more than others and some misuse it. I have a cousin who is so wrapped up in coupons. It's a hobby for him and I understand that. But he's fooled by looking at his receipt and seeing he "saved" 46% or whatever on his bill. That "savings" includes the "sale" price from an inflated base price. They normally sell baby back ribs for instance for $3.59/#, then mark them up to $5.99/#, then put them on "sale" for $2.99/# so the register says you saved $2.40/# where I say you saved 50¢/# but had you bought country style ribs for $1.99/# you would have actually saved $1.60/#! I can't get him to understand that he didn't save - he spent and there's a difference. He bought TV dinners, doesn't like them - throws out 2/3 of it or used to feed it to the dog. Bad for the dog and wasted money. Some things he gives away. That's fine, to a point but he also needs to factor in the $2/week for the paper to get the coupons to start with. Few people do factor that in so that takes quite a hit on some of the average "savings". If you do it as a hobby then it's a different story, but I take issue with people who claim to save so much on coupons. Rarely does anyone save a huge amount if they look at other options. A price book or similar will do a lot to help save money. Learn prices. Don't just look at a sale sign or a coupon. See what it costs. When I can take a coupon and use it on a 75% off clearance item that I need anyway, *there* is a savings. I take advantage of a lot of the free after rebate items that Menards has. No I don't need 10 tape measures, but for the cost of sales tax I made a lot of people very happy. For them, it was like a $10 gift. Cleaners seem to be a good thing for coupons, especially if the place will double coupons. However doubling coupons isn't always good. Often the places that double or triple coupons are much higher priced anyway so it offsets any perceived savings. I do find that many brand name cleaners work better than generic so I do buy some of them. I'll only buy Dawn, Joy or Gain dish soap. They're the only ones I like and why waste money on the "cheaper" stuff that doesn't work. However I can buy Dawn (sometimes Joy) cheaper than generic. Small bottle on sale for 79¢, and a coupon for 30¢ off. Far cheaper than BulkCo warehouse places, which I've never found to be good values regularly. For a lot of staples, I do better at Aldi than coupons. Many coupons are for junk food unless it's a store coupon. Store coupons can be fine for certain items but there too you have to be careful. They used to have roasts for buy one, get one free, but when you looked at the per pound price, there was no significant savings. I just bought some paper towels on sale, then there was a coupon on them for $1 off a package and if you buy two packages you get a $5 gift card for the store. I needed some paper towels and like the select-a-size so this worked well for me. Dropped the price to a reasonable level and I like Bounty over a lot of the cheaper brands. Similar deal available on toilet paper but I have a stock so no need for it. Only consider it in that case if it's next to nothing, free or pays me to buy it. There's a lot of different things to do to save money or more aptly put, spend less. Don't go to the store so often is one. Use a price book and compare (and record) prices. Use coupons carefully. Cut your waste. Compare unit prices. Maybe a bottle is cheaper because it has less? Hint: Any time they change a bottle or container, check the contents. They may well have changed the size. I noticed Palmolive dish soap is now an 8 oz bottle! Really, now *that* is getting crazy. And the funny thing is they make this weird shaped bottle to look so big. I laughed.

It's on my Instant Queue, but I haven't watched it yet. I like Kevin Spacey, and I heard the show is very good. I was telling someone about it, and I called the show "King of Spades." Hope he found it. LOL
