My Mom

I'm not here much anymore. A lot of things have happened that are not positive.

Anyway, I'd like to give you an update on my Mom, and it's not good. I'd also welcome your opinions, ideas and hope.

The end of November Mom had emergency surgery, she had a punctured colon. She had diverticulitis, and has an ileostomy (a poop bag)

Her recovery is not going well..... her legs are hugely swollen, tight, and she can't walk.

They transferred her from the hospital to another one, for re-hab to get her walking and her legs to get down to proper size.

It's painful and very awkward for her to walk.....her legs are like tree trunks, are together from the top to the knees and her ankles are swollen. When she gets onto her bed she backs onto the bed and sits down but I have to lift her legs onto the bed.

Anyway, they **finally** decided to do an ultrasound last Monday and she has a blood clot.

Yesterday morning at 8:30 my step-father called to say the hospital called her to say she was passing blood clots and they are taking her to emergency.

He called last nite, after the 2 of them being in emergency all day. She is bleeding and they don't know why. They did x-rays and cat-scan and nothing shows.

SUDDENLY her blood pressure dropped to 50/46. So they admitted her to Acute-Care.

Soooo all is not well with Mom, and I wanted you to know.

what they all said ... good work on using the phone ... etc ... but i dont know if your comment about them 'soaking it up' is realistic .... would welcome a discussion on such ... regardless.. i suspect you are never going to get over this .. lol .. so may as well chuck it all in.. just for piece of mind ... its not the first time a farmer lost a crop ... ken ps: sos must have GIANT slugs .. lol ... there must be an attractant in such.. so something was attracted ... wouldnt surprise me if it isnt some beer byproduct ... maybe used yeast??? .. who knows ...

My Mom dulled my Hardwood floors!

It sounds like there was some kind of wax or build up already on the floor and the moisture from the steam caused it to become dull and foggy looking. Using mineral spirits with a very fine steel wool pad will probably work well. I'd be making your Mom apply that elbow grease! The same should be true whether these are actually hard wood or laminate flooring. Wax of one kind or another is usually applied to hard wood flooring, but laminate flooring shouldn't have any wax on it. I've used a steam cleaner on my laminate flooring and had good results, so you probably DO have wood. After removing the waxy buildup, you may have to use some kind of wax to bring the shine up some and to protect the surface. You might want to ask your landlord what he prefers you use. Lovely aloes, Lars! Quite a difference from indoor grown in northern latitudes to outdoor grown in balmy climates!!! The plant above had just been moved there, given to my mom by a friend who had no room - and photo was taken on a smoky overcast day... I suspect that south facing balcony window will improve its condition. When my mom said she “doesn’t keep any plants up there because they fry” I told her to put it there :)

Agree with the suggestion that you try swapping the loveseat and rocker locations. With the loveseat moved, you can dress the patio door/window. If that is a sliding door, a wood or metal rod in the bottom rail might make the room "feel" more secure -- no need to block it with a sofa. A lot of people don't care for vertical blinds but I consider them perfect for a patio door or even a large row of windows in an informal / contemporary room. White vinyl vertical blinds would provide more privacy and light control options than drapes. If your mom's window is on the north side of the building, she'll not be getting any sunlight directly into her room and that may be one reason why the room is "dark" . If the big box store options are out of price range, check with Habitat for Humanity or Good Will or other local charity sponsored thrift stores for bargains.

I hope your mother can get some relief. It must be painful for her physically and you mentally. I'll be praying for better news the next time you post. We miss you tons, girl!!! (Don't forget to feed the worms!)

Is your Mom in the very best hospital in the area? Has she been checked to see if there are any more blockages that they missed. Her swollen legs are the result of something internal. Put pressure on her original surgeon to address the situation.
You have my utmost respect and sympathy at this stressful time. You've been a good daughter and I pray that there will be a positive solution. Keep the faith.

OMG I can not believe when her legs started to look that way they did not immediately rush her in and check for blood clots what negligent behavior! When surgeries are done it is essential to keep a very close watch for those kind of signals because blood clots are definitely a possibility after any surgery.
I am so sorry you and your mother are going through such a horrible time, she is in my prayers, stay strong!

I sure hope you are getting second opinions. In the Midwest, if that's where you are, I'd definitely contact the Mayo Clinic. They have helped me along with other family and friends. They are THE BEST in diagnostics and getting one onto a good treatment plan.

Oh my. I'm so sorry your mom is going through all this. I have no suggestions except that someone has got to keep after the doctors for her. As they say,' the squeakiest wheel gets the oil'. I do hope and pray for a good outcome.
