Yes, in fact here if you use a gift card it is 3 or 5 cents cheaper per gallon. I usually get a card when I'm shopping and use it just for gas. Don't know if it's the same all over the country.

Yep,we buy the gas cards all the time and save 3 cents a gallon.May not add up to much but every little bit helps.When you check out just tell the cashier you want whatever amount on a gas/gift card.I keep a card in my wallet and add a little each time I make a purchase too.That way I always have some extra gas money.Cards don't expire but sometimes they will give you a new card if you have had yours for a while or used it a lot.

Can you somehow go online (or into a WalMart store) and put more money on someone's WalMart card if you don't have the actual card?

Someone I know is helping a college student by paying some of their gas bill every month but would like it to be a set amount each month rather than the college student running around with the adult's gasoline card. The thought was to give the student a WalMart card each month, but it would be easier to just keeping putting $$ on the same card if it can be done without actually having the card in her hand.

I think you have to have physical possesion of the card, Rita. And they don't have to use that card for gas, you know, they can use it in the store, too.

I can get gas cheaper at a local station than I can at WalMarts' even with the 3 cent discount. We just have to cross the state line and go about a mile. It's also where we buy our wine, the prices are so much better in MO than in AR.

That's true, Flamey, about using it for other stuff. But if the student knows that's all the $$ for the month and uses it on something other than gas, let's hope he/she has good walking shoes! LOL!

This is not Walmart, but wanted to share..We have a grocery chain, Giant Eagle, and the prices are very high. They give you a card and with each purchase you get points to use toward gas purchase...This store is busier than others and people really think they are getting a bargain??? They also sell Gift cards for every store you can imagine and if you use their card you get the points. Well, killing those 2 birds, I went in with my list, got my gift cards and got $1.27 off on each gal. of gas. Then to make it even better, I paid with my visa because we also get money back on that..I just thought I was brilliant. I won't shop at this grocery, but I'll get the gift cards there....

I usually buy my gas at Wal-mart with a gift card and the card is also good at Sam's gas stations. 3¢ off each gallon

I buy my card with my Visa thereby getting the benefit of getting "points" so it builds up the value of my "points"

theres a 2 part card at walmart. the top part is retained by the payee, and the bottom part is given to the payor.

Annette-Are you talking about a wal-mart gift card? Don't think I have ever seen one like you are talking about.

Anette, that's what I think I heard about. I know they have corporate cards you can reload, but the one you mentioned is what I was thinking of.

Hello! I just wanted to add that as long as you know the number on the card, you dont have to have it on person to add money to it. My mother in law sent my son a walmart gift card last year for his birthday, since we still had the card this year, we just gave her the number and she went to walmart and had money added. She lives in Colorado and we live in Texas.

yep, a gift card. i have a friend whose son was away at college. it helped them a lot.

didnt know it could be done without the card, thats good info to have.
