Peppi, a new Aldi's just went in about 30 miles from here, I like shopping there a lot. Elery went there yesterday and bought avocados, so far all the produce has been from the USA. I like that I can get Dubliner cheese there in small amounts and the kids like their snacks, about half the price of Meijer or our local Evil Empire. However, Mother bought something called "Winking Owl" wine. Why? Because Mother thinks owls are cute, LOL. She said the wine was possibly the worst she'd ever had. I asked her what she expected for $2.99. (grin) If I lived in Chicago and had your shopping available I probably wouldn't be that impressed with TJs either, but with no Trader Joe's, no Whole Foods, no Wegman's, few specialty stores, well, TJs is a fun stop. The lemon loaf is excellent, & good for morning coffee or dessert. Ingredients are onions, vegetable oil (canola and palm), wheat flour and salt. ---- Greek yogurt -- not TJ's Greek style, but the real Greek stuff "soft whole wheat bread". Monte Pollino olive oil canned beans beef broth concentrate in little packets Havarti cheese whipping cream that's not ultra-pasteurized triple gingersnaps ---- I looked over many of the fresh beef labels yesteday, and I couldn't find one that didn't say 'natural, no anti-biotics, no hormones, vegetarian diet'. All of them. I could have missed a package, but my impression is all of their beef was 'clean'. It is yummy and worry free! A special treat for me. They also carry a variety of other products that make life easier -- pizza that doesn't taste like cardboard and GF tortilla (rice flour). ---- frozen Pineapple... Almond Meal... General Tso's sauce... Chamomile/Lavender hand soap. Envirokidz cereal Ketchup. Pad Thai Brown Rice Pasta Italian chopped salad ---- blue cheese, crumbled feta and fresh mozzarella. I love their caponata. ÂUnsweetened vanilla almond breeze (great for low-carbers). I also use their soaps - body - clothes and dishes.

We take the red foiled hams from Costco, and toss the spice packet into the trash. Then we put the ham flat side down in a tray or shallow pan, pour a bit of Coke or diluted apple juice (optional) into the layers, so that there is only about a quarter inch of juice in the bottom of the pan. Then we smoke the ham for 2.5 hours in a smoker. It turns out so good and moist, there is no other recipe anymore.

Yuck. And i like brussels. They roast fine if not too big or larger ones cut in half. Small ones roasted whole i cut the root end off then poke with a paring knife into the stem a bit. Parboil helps before roasting. In the winter i buy peas, baby limas and spinach frozen. Don't care for anything but fresh for string beans. Tried freezing my garden beans but not so great....goes into the pups food. I recently purchased a bag of small sweet potatoes and small red onions. Both went in the pantry in their separate bins. A few sweet potatoes rotted and stuck to the shelf in just a few days. They were firm. Not happened to me ever. Had to scrub the shelf and put the basket through the dish washer. The last few red onions i used for burgers last week. One was rotten inside and the others could have been a bit more firm in such a short time. (do they buy surplus stock?) Makes me wonder. The closest store is too far away to return and closed on Sundays as all stores are in that area of NJ. Silly packaging....already sweet on their own....
