Please help! Stretched out sweater :(

I was so proud of myself, having spent months making a crocheted sweater for my hubby, the first time that I had ever made anything more than a shawl or hat. http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/projects/march00_proj_crochet.html

I used washable 100% wool for it, and even got him involved in finding the yarn and picking out the color.

After the first washing (he did it, I didn't) he put the sweater over one of those wood drying racks... he went back the next day to check on it, and the arms, which had been hanging over the sides of the dryer, are about 4 inches longer than they were before the sweater was washed!!

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting this sweater back to its original shape/size? He thought about putting it in the dryer, but then it might shrink the main body part of it. I suppose that I could take off the sleeves and make them shorter, but I'm sure hoping to avoid that! Especially considering how well I sewed up those seams ::

Thank you so much for any advice!
