Hello, I cannot help with the wood aspect, but perhaps I can help with the kitty end of it. We too had an old cat that no matter what, we would not part with until his little mind totally went on him. At the age of nearly 20, he had dementia really bad and so resorted to the final step. Never an easy task. We placed puppy training pads under and around the litter box and he used that. We had to keep the litter box, because he associated it with having to go and where. Use an ezymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle to clean the urine. Yes, it will remove the wax, but the wax should be removed. Stained concrete floors were traditionally finished with wax only, no acrylic. Or they are finished today with acrylic only, no wax. This "hybrid" using the two does not increase the protection. It actually makes upkeep worse. Strip off the wax, and if you haven't used any oil type cleaners on it, it may be possible to have an additional layer of acrylic polyurethane applied when the floors become a bit dulled by use. But, the acrylic poly is all the protection against urine that your floor should need. In addition, take your cat to the vet. Inappropriate elimination is caused by a bladder infection around 80% of the time. If not addressed, the problem can become one ingrained by habit even after the infection clears up. Environmental stressors such as moving can also contribute to both an infection and behavioral issues.

I'm having the same issue. I was watching an episode of "The Doctors" the other day (the medical show, is there still a soap opera?!) and it was mentioned that women could purchase several devices to exercise the pelvic floor. I wondered if anyone had tried them, and whether they were any more effective than the old-fashioned "Practice starting and stopping the flow" which doctors have said for years.

I'm sure you'll have peace of mind on Monday when he goes in for a checkup, Anne-Marie. They can do a urine check if needed to make sure he doesn't have the beginnings of anything. When you said although he looks funny in that area.. it doesn't look like a nugget might be in there, does it? I was reading about cryptorchidism in males but it was very uncommon that they would leave one behind. In my travels, I found a pictorial of how they do a neuter. Wow -- just when I thought I'd seen it all!! This was on very young kitten so I would imagine the incision would be minuscule in comparison to an older, developed cat.
