Great idea for storing board games

If we ever develop the basement as a rec room I'm going to do this.

That is such a COOL idea, for those with the wall space. Unfortunately I am not in that group.

I have several very old game boards that I have saved to hang on the wall upstairs. Most of them are painted wood.

When I did a hang out room for the kids years ago I did it with the thoughts that all tops needed to be nearly bullet proof, the sofa had to be leather so I could clean it, I would revamp used things so I would not worry about things getting destroyed and the room had to be suitable for adults as well. I do not have a picture of the sofa area on the other side because that area is now an office but the sofa was leather and matched the drapes (and hit dirt). Those bar tables on each back corner were rusty and used so I painted the base stalk to match the used bar stool bases and added glass mosaics to the bottom and painted the tops adding several coats of poly. The picture frame came from a thrift store and I added my own mixed media art on top of an old painting I also painted the other picture. The room would only take a small pool table, I bought it used for $150 and had it re-felted. The coffee table near the sofa came from a garage sale and I added a bullet proof granite top. On top of the coffee table was a very cool antique brass chess set (from a garage sale). I also had two ottomans near the sofa and coffee table in reds, raisin , purple and teal tapestry fabric for extra seating and also because it would not hamper the pool playing in limited space. From that area (sofa) you could view a wall mounted TV for sports. So, even though the room was not large I still had areas, areas for game playing and TV watching, areas for snacks, and the center for pool playing.

How to display a collection of board games......?

I also collect them and intend on doing a wall in our "someday" tv room.. Most of mine are like checkers and chinese checkers but each of them are very different. I plan to be able to use them so I don't want them attached to the wall. I am going to just use a T-pin and stick through the hole or if it is a two sided (the two sided ones I have are framed) so those I will just hang them by the "lip" of the frame. Some of mine will hang diamond shaped other square. I had two of my grandkids spend the night last night and we got some of the boards out today so they could play chinese checkers. The board they chose was a 1938 two sided, wood framed but I think the boards themselves were pressed cardboard.It was made by Straits Manufacturing Co of Detroit Mich....It says American made toys for American girls and boys. Another one was a 1928 solid wood, with frame it has a paper glued on back with info. It is called the Original "Star Checkers". L G Ballard MFG, Topeka, Kansas. I love the bright colors. Many of them have a bright yellow in them...I'm thinking the new gold color is what I will choose for my wall...at least the one with the game boards. Another wall will have my collection of Wizard of Oz dolls and things to go with that. patti

Thanks to all of your for your ideas for our Christmas fun. Last night, I headed out to Dollar General and bought more than we are going to need, but it was so much fun, I couldn't stop! So here are some of the things we will be using: $5 Sonic gift card; Windshield De-Icer; Nail & toenail clippers, emory board and sparkly nail polish; Printer paper & pk of multi-colored pens; Body scrub & body sponge; 4 pk Puffs; 6 rolls Charmin; Hand sanitizer & hand wash; 2 pks Twizzlers; 2 pks Skiddles; Pk of Beef Jerky; Cheddar Dip & Bean dip; Duck Tape & Electrical Tape; 6V Flashlight & battery; Soft plaid Throw; huge container of cheese balls; carton of Mt. Dew, and for fun, a Plumber's Friend and Pk of Vinyl gloves. Now for wrapping....and that is one job I hate to do...but heck, I don't have to mess with ribbons and name tags on these! Thanks again for getting me started on this.

We will have to try Quiddler. We use to play Pictionary or Taboo, which turned into some hilarious sessions. None of us are particularly artistic for Pictionary, and as for Taboo, well, it just got completely ridiculous coming up with various ‘word’ substitutes or clues, some of which were known only to family members, which increases the fun factor imo.

That is the neatest idea I've seen in a long time! We don't have a basement, so mine are all stuffed on a shelf in a closet!

Oh, how neat! I LOVE that. We have our stacks of board games stuffed on a shelf in a closet too. If we had the space, I would do that for sure. Oh hey, maybe we DO have the space. There wouldn't be room in our basement (which is set up as a classroom), but I'm thinking it would look really neat in our upstairs hall.

That's a great idea. An you can play the games in the frames.

I have no need to do it but was thinking about all the things you buy that has extras which get lost in drawers. I can put them in baggies and hang them on a bulletin board for that purpose.

I have framed some old board games but never thought of putting the playing pieces on the back to store them. Great idea.

I collect old board games and have them sitting on a shelf plus I don't have anybody to play them with .... sniff.
