Media Filter Housing Unit

For lack of better terminology, we want to have the housing unit where the filter goes on our boiler to a 4" pleat housing unit, currently it is a 1" pleat. We will hire someone, but can someone tell me how feasible this is for an experienced tech?

We had our attic ductwork changed 4 years ago and the guy offered to do it for us, and we turned him. Now with DD's allergies, we would like to do this.

Also, DD has an air vent directly above her bed on the ceiling that we would also like moved to the side of her bed area. Since there is access from the attic, is this also feasible?

For an experienced technician- no problem! The task is more time consuming than it is troublesome. But not a problem. As far as relocating the register, this is also not a problem. You might want to try to get the old tech out only because since he is familiar with the project you may be able to get a deal.
To find a licensed, bonded, insured company in your area it is pretty easy to go to Google and type in air conditioning company and then your city after that, ie. air conditioning company tucson, arizona.
Take a look at their reviews also and be sure that they are a company revolved around customer service and deliver nothing but quality.

Can you tell me how a person that lives in New York will be helped by the company you work for in Arizona?

The duct work is easy and the time depends on access and material.
The problem with moving the register, besides the mess is most HVAC guys are not good with drywall (patching the old hole) and especially painting, so it may take two contractors.

Actually, the larger surface area is LESS load to the blower. The filter will clog less and allows more air to pass through because it IS larger. Put it this way - which is easier to breathe through - a straw, or a vacuum cleaner hose? Another factor to consider is the cost of the filters. I was buying the best disposable ones I could get (just one inch, that's how my place is set up) , and with full-time blower operation and a shedding dog, was changing them monthly and they were costing close to $20 each. I bought washable electrostatic filters on sale for a similar price, got two so I can rotate them. How well do they work? Pretty well as far as I can see, the non-dust collecting side seems to stay clean so little or no dust is coming through, I can't remember how many microns they go to, but they seem ok. I'm not sure how long they are supposed to last, I give them a vacuum (central vac exhausted outside so I'm not pumping dust back into house) then wash them well and air dry them.

Jenny, Any update on what you ended up doing? I installed a whole house softener for hard water issues, but I have odor issues (sulfur and chlorine mostly). I'm leaning toward adding a charcoal filter before the softener. We also have RO in the kitchen and wet bars. Also, you could always just have another hole drilled for the RO faucet without replacing the granite slab. If you have an undermounted sink, the new hole is all you need. What did you end up doing?

We have the PB Logan in black and love it. The quality has been just fine actually. I was a bit worried but at the time, we really had no other option. We had just bought our 55" TV (or should I say DH's 55" TV. LOL!) three weeks before Hurricane Katrina hit and bought just a console for the bottom which arrived a week before the storm hit. Thank goodness. We came back to find that we'd had about 22" of water. That piece that came a week before the storm saved the new TV! Well, we had to refurnish our whole house and I decided I wanted more storage and a bigger piece. I looked at every furniture store in New Orleans for something to house a 55" TV. Everything (at the time) was made for a 50" TV but stopped just short of the dimensions of our TV. But the PB Logan fit the bill. We love it. It's a very nice piece. It's sturdy and has yet to get a scratch or anything on it and we do rotate our TV a bit sometimes. Hope that helps a bit!
