I usually have the tv on when I'm home. I rarely listen to the radio. I just need the noise.

One of the first things I do when I wake up is turn the TV on in my room. As I make my way to the kitchen for coffee, I often turn the TV on in the living room also.

Used to listen to radio more or at least as much as TV, but it's been years since I've done so.

I guess it is a habit, but the TV goes on when I get up in the AM. I like to listen to the news (sometimes I don't like what I hear, but that is another story) The Tv is on all day, then when I go to bed, I tune it onto a music channel, schedule the remote to sleep timer, then lay there listening to the music until i fall asleep. I always have the radio on in the car.

Never. I only listen to the radio in the car, also. I don't even like music on, although I love music. Our radio stations do not come in well at our house, so I prefer silence to static.

I almost always have the radio on, either an all-talk station or NPR. I rarely turn the TV on. I just cannot tolerate all the commercials.

I one who doesn't like extraneous noise. I never turn on the television unless I am sitting down to watch it. I don't have any background music on either. I listen to CDs in the car, but at a pretty low volume. I've had the same five CDs playing in rotation for three years which will show you how much I'm actually listening to them. LOL!

We listen to the radio a lot more through the day than tv, but don't have anything constantly on just for the noise. What is on, we are listening to. Listen to local radio when we get up till 10am on weekdays and till noon on the weekends. Turn the tv on just for news at noon on weekdays is our normal routine. Sometimes we play cds if we are just relaxing with a book or working on puzzles

Just to have the noise? No, prefer quiet, but there are many who like it for that. I love music! Not as background noise but to really listen to it, and prefer MP3 format. TV? We like some shows and DVDs. It's only on when we're watching it, though.

Is it true that having background noise helps with loneliness? Maybe if I was home alone most of the time, it would be something I'd like, also.

Ditto Sleeperblues. ("Never.") If I didn't have bad radio reception I would probably listen to NPR now and then. I like Pandora, but if I'm doing anything that requires thought I can't listen to anything--especially music.

I put the TV on for a specific show, and then turn it off.

Usually, I have nothing on for 'background' noise. But occasionally, I want the tv on while I'm doing something else. Sometimes it's on because I want to catch the weather on the news and they play distinctive music for that. I hear that and know the weather is next.

Since the kids left the nest several years ago, I can't stand the the house being so quiet. I like background noise, so the TV goes on when I get up and stays on until bed. When I'm cooking I like listening to music either on my ipod or ipad. While driving I listen to newstalk radio.

I like a quiet house and I never watch daytime t.v. but my husband likes talk radio so I just shut off my hearing aids, lol.

I always have the radio on in my bedroom, in fact, I fall asleep listening to Coast to Coast with George Noory. I work during the day but leave the radio on for my cats. In the evening, I turn it off and watch tv in the living room until going to bed. I don't have a tv in my bedroom.

Very seldom have TV on day and not even at night, except when we are under storm watches. Mostly reruns. Don't have a radio, plan to get one. No TV in bedroom, but would like a small one in kitchen. Where we use to live, loved having doors open to enjoy outside with birds etc, but did keep screen door closed. No traffic, no neighbors etc.

I like listening to the wind chimes, birds, wind in the trees, grandkids playing, etc. DH, on the other hand, can't function without music. We compromise.

I have the tv on all the time and even go to sleep with an old movie in the vcr.

I have a radio progrm I try and listen to at 7 ecah night it is old rdio programs from the 40's on our college station.
cant stand complete silence I do listen to my tape recorder a lot of varios things I have taped (not music)

I don't like radio noise...it's all junk noise to me. I do play CDs in the car.

The TV is only on at night or when DH is home. I haven't watched TV during the day since Watergate.

I'll have to admit I am a talk show junkie so my radio is on most of the day except when I am working on my computer.I really enjoy listening to the folks that call in with their different opinions on alot of subjects.

I only have the tv on when I'm watching it. Sometimes around the house I have the radio on, and sometimes I like it quiet. When I'm busy on the treadmill or doing monotonous household jobs, I put my iPod in and listen to music or a podcast.

Neither DH nor I want 'background noise'. I will sometimes listen to WGN (Chicago talk radio) if I'm driving more than a few miles. DH listens to a sports radio station sometimes during baseball and football seasons. I like to catch the news on NPR before I get up or listen to it for 30 minutes at bedtime if I'm in bed before DH. (I like classical music and opera' he doesn't.)

We catch GMA or CNN on TV for a few minutes while we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in the 'breakfast room'. We'll watch Jeopardy at dinnertime Saturdays.

Our large TV is only in use for something we've recorded (like PBS Masterpiece) or for a DVD movie at 'teatime'. DH will use it to watch a specific game involving 'his' teams. (Well, I do use it for the Wii, too.)

I roomed (briefly!) with a girl who *needed* noise 24/7. We once had neighbors whose TV was NEVER turned off -- or down -- unless a visitor requested it in order to have a conversation without shouting. I wondered if it was a barrier so they wouldn't have to talk to one another.
