Basic Elmers not only goes bad in the bottle, but it eventually yellows when dry. Unless they have dramatically changed their formula, it is not archival except that it is reversible. It yellows and goes crumbly. I teach middle school art and have gradually worked at getting rid of the gallons of it that were in the room when I got there. I LOVE Sobo and Aleens, but they are rather expensive I know. Weldbond in the big bottle isn't a bad deal. I get mine from Dick Blick, where I get pretty much everything.

Laminate floors don't normally use glue....so I'm having a hard time figuring out what this is. When you say "small amount" of carpet to glue, are you talking about 4sf or are you talking 40sf or 400sf??? With 4sf on a NON floor surface (like on a wall or a ceiling)...go for it. If it is 40sf, I wouldn't. If it is 400sf, I definitely would not do it. Carpet adhesives and 'flooring' adhesives are vastly different things. It all depends on the backing of the carpet.
