Some form of nitrogen will generally help trees in average soil establish more quickly, but a quarter pound of actual N. for a small tree could be damaging to the tender roots, I'm guessing. However, I am not speaking from the experience of this particular mistake- I have only damaged more sensitive plants with surface applications of excessive N- never fruit trees. Depends in part on texture of soil, in sandy soil your are more likely to scorch the roots- especially if the tree isn't mulched. Heavy watering can leach out the fertilizer in a hurry.

Hi, Did you resolve your problem? If not............... Treat this like a watermark on furniture. A few options: Goo Be Gone. If it is on the surface, this will loosen the stain. Start with a small area so you can see what is going on with the finish. You can also try a Magic Eraser. Be careful with this. Use it just on the faded area and again, watch the finish. Finally, check your local Walmart for Formby's furniture cleaner. If it will come off, this will take it off without harming the finish. If there was a finish on your hardwoods, it isn't likely that the stain went through to the wood. Good Luck.

Waterlox is food safe once cured I believe but you still wouldn't chop on it as it would ruin the finish. I've been going back and forth on oiling and Waterlox for quite some time and decided to try the mineral oil/wax route first... I figure if I don't like it I can always sand it down and put a finish on it. What I like about the oil is the look/feel. Also, you can always sand down with a little sanding block any marks and just re-oil. The downside would be there's more maintenance (monthly oiling) and you really need to keep it oiled to help resists stains, etc. With waterloo (or similar) water will always bead and it's easy to wipe down. You can choose their satin finish if you don't like glossy. The Craft Art website (or Waterlox site) gives detailed instructions on how to finish. There's a nice product called Clapham's Beeswax Salad bowl finish (Amazon.com) that rubs in well and got great reviews. I've tried various products on my walnut cutting board. Do nothing and stop worrying? Chances are your landlord isn't going to notice/care. I accidentally scrubbed some white paint off a door in my old apartment because I was using a magic eraser to clean handprint grime from around the doorknob, except it kept getting grimier. So I kept scrubbing, and it got grimier still. Then I realized I was scrubbing off the paint, which had gotten thin enough in places that it was showing the dark color underneath. Whoops. Landlord didn't notice or care, and I got back the whole security deposit.
