If You Have One, Do You Use It? 01-07-11

Do you have any wall pockets and if so do you have them hanging? I do have some. Right now the only two hanging are in my kitchen and they are the plastic Kennel Ration cat and dog I think they are. The cat is black and the dog is yellow. I am not sure, maybe they came out in the 40's or 50's. I do have a couple of ladies with bonnets, one trimmed in red and the other blue, rather old and I don't know who they were made by. I also have an oriental one by Royal Copley and the only other ones I can think of now are a matching pair in a pretty green by Brush McCoy I think. I would have to look those up again to be sure. I plan on hanging those one of these days and putting some flowers and greenery in.

Oh I did forget, also in my kitchen is a very cute set of 3 sunflowers with smiling faces and I have greenery with tiny sunflowers in those. I gave those to my Mother back in the 60's. I was lucky enough to find a second pair in perfect condition at a rummage sale a few years ago and I have put them back to save. Very collectible but I only paid $.75 for those. Anyone else have any wall pockets?

I have loved wall pockets since childhood. My grandma had many of them about her 13 room house. When she broke up housekeeping, most were divided among her 11 children. My Mom got a pair of clown faces.

I have just one in my kitchen with greenery and an American Flag in it. It is part of a set of 3 clay vase type pockets with colorful wild flower motif that I bought in 1970 at Don Drum Studios in Akron Ohio. It has been a part of 4 of my kitchens. The other 2 in the set were given to my daughter. They were the perfect touch for the entryway in her first home. She has found a place for them in 3 homes.

Anj, you are such a busy bee? Is the wallpaper in the bathroom you have been working on? Just think how pretty it will be will all completed. ;o) Bonnie, I read your "schedule" in another post--you are gonna be busy with craft sales clear up until Christmas. Best wishes to you on lots of good sales. Linda, all your projects sound so interesting, but the pancake turners with snowmen really caught my attention. Don't think I've ever seen that done. I've have seen wooden spoons painted to look like Santas, and snowmen painted on the bottom of muffin tins. Hope you'll share a pic of your pancake turners, that sounds like a fun kitchen gift. The grungied gingers and your painted pillow sound neat too. I painted several squares of muslin one year and a quilter friend turned them into great pillows--we both gave them as gifts to all our friends that year. ;o) Sweets, I'm with you, still thinking about Fall/Halloween items and enjoying this great Fall weather. Such a relief after the hot, hot summer. But then I don't do craft shows or sell my items--then I would probably be doing Christmas stuff really early! LOL

Whelp I got the project mostly done. I need better latches on the upper cabinet doors as the cat Abby has decided I put that there for her to open doors and climb up into. GGGGRRRRRR Both pieces were on wheels !!!! All furniture should be on wheels. LOL The old stuff has come from all over. I remember the hooser came from a liquor store in Challis. Just some thing they were selling on the side.Most of my stuff really is just junk. Yard sale stuff thrift store. I still need to fine tune things in studio and kitchen but already Hoosier is great where it is and the ability to easily get to the appliances is a big help. Not that getting them from a shelf below cabinet is all that hard. For me now it is. sigh. Good news is my hands are getting better. This has been pretty miserable. I am going to jazz up the hoosier a little bit. I am not at all concerned to devalue it as it is not a good one. Crappy wood not pretty oak. Painted and all. Then I will get a picture. Adding fru fru to the top is out of the question Again Abby has her own opinion on what belongs up there and has cleared it twice already of what she does not like. This dang cat is more like an Orangutan than a sweet little kitty.

Not the same neighborhood but not that far from my first home. Looks like you are getting good marketing on a modestly priced home. That should serve you well, but don't be surprised if everyone isn't out looking this weekend. I've heard holiday weekends are sometimes very busy for showings (family is together, some have days off and more time, and beginning of the month before school starts again mean families may be out seriously looking) but sometimes folks are busy with family plans. Don't be surprised -- whether you are busy with showings all weekend or things don't start moving until next week. Good luck!

Yes, I do, but they are in storage. Before, I used one to keep one of the cordless phones in, the other for TV/etc. remotes.

Wall pockets are like vases that hang on the wall and can be made of just about anything I think. Plain or decorative.

I have 2 of the purple peacocks that belonged to my grandmother. I have them on my dresser and not hanging, they have been broken and glued.. but I keep them since they are one of the few things I have of my DGM's.

Yes, I have several in my entry way I have 8 that I bought back in the 70-80's at the SawDust festival in Laguna Beach they are hand made out of rough clay shaped like shoes mostly like kids would wear very one of a kind. I put fake flowers in them sometimes back in the day I always had dried flowers in them when that was popular. In my kitchen I have 4 mini shoes and several more of different shaped wall pockets all hand built~~all very 70-80's. I love them and often wonder if when I am gone if my girls will cherish them like I do.

Lunch Lady your post reminded me when I looked at your peacock wall pocket, I have one or two of the love bird ones. My Grandma had some just like those way back in the 40's at least. Mine are like those. I have them packed away someplace.
