Day old chicken?

Can anyone tell me why refrigerated chicken,

after reheating, sometimes...but not all the

time...has a kinda metallic taste to it?

Are you wrapping it in foil? Storing it in metal? I have never noticed anything like that.

To me, it just tastes stale. Like the fat in the meat (especially rotisserie chickens) congeals and just tastes nasty. I always store my leftovers in freezer bags in the fridge, and whatever DH doesn't eat for lunch goes into enchiladas or something else with strong seasoning.

So why do you want to dry this manure? Short of running it through an oven the only way you have is to spread it out on a tarp in the sun for several days. I would not bother with that but would add it to my compost pile, or maybe to the garden.

Thank you so much for taking time to post the Backyard Chicken info, Julia!! I have a post there now. Yesterday we took Speckles to a vet who treats "exotics", which seems to include chickens! She spent the night there last night, is on antibiotics and possibly has egg yolk peritonitis. They also thought she had a possible crop impaction, but she did pass some droppings this morning, so they think that is gradually working itself out. She is SO thin though. They are doing x-rays and blood work this afternoon and we are going to be able to bring her home tonight, then take her back tomorrow. We talked just to an assistant so far, but will see the vet when we pick her up. I'm hoping the antibiotics will be enough to take care of this, but I guess it is too soon to tell. Studies have shown a great many home refrigerators' temperature are way off. Too warm. I wonder if that's not a large part of it, plus the coating mix. I don't really love chicken but I do roast one about every 6 weeks, primarily for stock, and I don't find that it tastes much different the next day or two. But I also don't like white meat, so that often goes into a chicken curry salad or something. But I have to say that even when I was on Dr. Pat's diet for a while, I broiled the chicken breasts for four days at a time, and they were just about the same on day four as on day 1, even if I got lazy and micro-ed them. My fridge is stuck at 34º, so maybe that helps, and I store in glasslock. I do usually buy Murray's chicken, for whatever that's worth.

I'm sorry, Ruthie, but I read the Snopes entry regarding bar codes. Before anyone in the US goes to the trouble to copy all those numbers, according to Snopes, they are the European codes, and are NOT the same for the codes use in the US. And even then, the codes can be misleading, because the origen may be hidden by the product being purchased and packaged in a second country. Be sure to read the Snopes article all the way to the end. And remember, the catch phrase, 'spread this to everyone' is usually a red flag.

No foil involved. I've noticed it throughout my life
not just one occurrence. I usually won't eat reheated
poultry because of it. But it doesn't happen all of
the time.
Just curious if anyone else out there has experienced this and knew what it was.

I never noticed it either. I love cold fried chicken with salt on it!

Can't say I've ever noticed that with chicken I have cooked but I don't care for leftovers from store bought BBQ birds.

I too don't like poultry reheated, unless it was already something simmered in sauce like coq au vin. But roast chicken, I either eat cold in chicken salad, or make enchiladas. There's just some weird taste to me.
