suggetions about temporary fixes on 100 year old oak?

Now that I can see the light at the end of the remodeling tunnel, I'm wondering if anyone might have some suggestions for temporary (read cheap) cosmetic improvements to the living and dining room floors. They are about 100 years old, a thin (originally 5/16" thick, now a bit thinner with previous refinishings) tongue and groove oak, nailed every 8" or so into the underlying perpendicular pine floor boards. They have a border, which is also oak, stained darker than the rest of the floor.

Unfortunately, I haven't the resources (financial OR psychological) now to get them refinished, if that's even possible, or replaced, if it's not. They are not horribly damaged...just worn, with little or no finish left.

I was wondering about just a thorough cleaning and good old fashioned butcher's wax? Any other ideas?
