Yes. DD and I talk a lot more often. We see each other and like to do things together also. I see less of her now that she's married but we still make time to get together. She's the social secretary of our family. She arranges dates and times for family dinners etc. it's not easy with all the crazy schedules.

Now DS and I exchange sound bites. He rents 1/2 of an old victorian and has a "half" address so he much of his mail comes here. He stops by often to pick it up. I see him frequently but only for a few minutes and often he is multi-tasking.

Example: A few nights ago he came by around midnight. I was surprised to see him so late. The conversation went almost exactly like this.

Me: Hi what are you doin' here so late?

DS: I need to get the ice pump. (digging in spare room) Friend crashed.

Me: Is he OK?

DS: Ankle

Me: Do I know him?

DS: Not sure. Name is -------- (short discription)

Me: Think I met him once. Sorry he's hurt.

DS: It's OK. He's an a&*!

Me: But he's your friend?

DS: Yeah but he's still an ---

DS: Gives me a one armed hug. Love you. Bye.

That is the norm. He's such a "guy". LOL But he is the first on the scene if I need him. He has a huge heart.

Same here; DD checks in with me every few days, chats, etc... she'll remember that my husband is out of town, asks me how I'm doing.
DS hardly every calls, he'll answer my texts and say " I love you" , but won't just randomly call and chat. It's a given for me, they were always like that, starting in the teen years, they're in their 30's now.

I don't like long calls, sometimes I just like to know everything is all right.

Well, now that DD is in Ukraine I rarely talk to her but we momentarily skyped with her a couple days ago. That kid lives life to the fullest at the expense of her parents. She doesn't seem to "get" that we worry about her and goes about her life making friends and exploring and working and partying. I find it interesting that she skypes with her boyfriend everyday, but rarely checks in with us. Oh well.

DS is in school, and we text frequently but can go weeks without talking. When he first went away to college I called him a couple times to see how it was going and he got irritated with me and told me to stop treating him like a baby. So I backed off and waited for him to call me.

My son is only 22, I don't initiate to many phone calls to him. We do email back and forth though. My dd and I talk either by phone or email almost every day.

I have 4 children, our son is not married and has never been married. I talk to him less as he usually is working, he is self employed. If he isn't working much then he will call me. If I should not hear from him for a few days I will call and leave a message. Our daughters are all married, they range in age from 34 to 54, no children at home just yet and all are stay at home wives. I talk to a couple of my daughters more than once a day, the other one several times a week. Most of the time they call me. If I need I will call them. Sometimes we email each other and talk on the phone. No set times, but usually during the day and maybe evening they will call. We always talk on our cell phones.

I talk to my daughter regularly on Sunday evenings. It has been like that ever since she left home to go to college, about 15 years ago. We don't usually exchange emails or texts. On the other hand, my son and I have never established a regular routine to call. Maybe once a month he will call. I don't call him because I will usually get his voicemail. We do communicate frequently via email tho. I also keep up with both of them via facebook.

I wait usually for them to call me,I don't ever want to interfere; having had a MIL from hades. They call me each week, but it is one or the other of the four kids.
They check with each other, so they all know if they have talked to us.
I do send each short emails, usually once a week.

We have 3 sons and 3 dtrs. I'd say we talk to most of them several times a week. Plus, their spouses and kids! Recently the phone rang and I told hub, "don't answer it! I don't want to talk now." I nearly gave him a heart attack, since I usually race to the phone to get it! The dirty rat answered the phone anyway and said, "Mom doesn't want to talk to you right now" didn't tell son why, had a long conversation, as they usually do. By the end of the day all the kids had called to find out if I was sick or something! I was kneading dough.

It makes me happy that they also call each other frequently.

Our daughter never liked talking on the phone, even as a teen. So once a week is plenty for her!

My two sons moved back home so I talk to them every day. My daughter lives two provinces over. I don't talk to her as much, but we are all on Facebook so I know what she's doing with her life. Plus if I have a question, I can text her anytime. The strangest part is, since moving two provinces over, we see her more than when she lived 10 minutes away. When she's in town, she's here for two weeks and spends every day here.

4 kids... used to talk to oldest dd the most but that's changed..now more often i talk to younger...her twin (thanks be!) now works with dh at the same co...ds1 is in a very difficult job at a college so never call him...we see them the most, cause we try to get to dgds soccer games...

My sons call us usually 2 or 3 times a week and I talk to our daughter at least 2 or 3 times every day.

Talk to son more - he's closer, mainly, and there are routine things to deal with.

Sometimes talk to daughter on phone, sometimes email, either of us initiating.

Son and I were rather distant for a time after our parting, but daughter was closer - I said that I should enjoy it while it lasted, and a good relationship has persisted over the years with her, and developed with son as the years passed.

I felt that part of my parental task was to encurage my children to prepare themselves for independence and I don't think that either felt confined as they grew up ... but I was resident parent only till son was 9 and daughter 6.

I talk to my DD briefly but most frequently. She has two boys, 1 year old and 4 year old, so our conversations are brief and often interrupted. My younger son is more talkative than his quieter older brother, and so he calls once or twice a week to talk to both of us. The quiet son doesn't call often but we see him more than his east coast brother. He likes to sit quietly in a room and have a long meandering chat, but is not much of a telephone talker.

For sure my daughter,my sons come see me but mydaughter does so much,she helps clean,we bake,we spend every Thursday together whether is shopping ,lunch whatever we feel like doing.We garden,we do crafts,not like we use to since Im on dialysis but we still tryShes really special not that the boys arent just since theyre married I dont see them much.

DS calls every 6 weeks or so, hard to get hold of him, works nights has different days off. Usually e-mail him weekly or so.
Don't call the girls, one will call if something important,usually e-mails me.
Other DD seldom calls,lives about 20 mi. away but seldom see her,she's so busy. Another e-mail thing.
I'm not one to talk on the phone much and they know that.

Can only speak as a daughter and a mother of sons. My mom and I spoke every day. My dad died when I was twelve, I was the baby, she was 48 when I was born. We were very close. My sons I speak to about once a week maybe. One was a Marine, spent a lot of time gone, we fell into the habit of at least every two weeks. The other is a problem, no news is good news, we hear from him a lot....
