Since 1997 I've had Windows Mail with no problems. Husband has Hotmail and for the 4th time he's been hacked. He started getting calls from friends this afternoon. Most knew it was a scam but checked in . Daughter said it said..'Sad news...I'm on a tour of Cypress and I was mugged getting off the bus on my way to my hotel. Can you please send me 2000 euros?' >>Last time he was in London, the time before, Paris. He sure gets around for someone who doesn't leave the house much. The odd thing...I didn't get any email and neither did our son. We're on his address list. Now he can't access his Hotmail account because the password is invalid.

My Hotmail account has never been hacked. I am shocked his has been hacked 4 times!

that happens when you use a real word simple password, especially email accounts should have very strong passwords, never use real words. Make them at least 8 characters long and use letters, numbers, and symbols. Create one that makes sense to you, for example, the initials of your children and the last 2 numbers of their birth year and throw in one of these between the initials and dates * or! even periods count. or the last four digits of your phone number * street number or your marriage year + initials.

those are combo's that only mean something to you they are unique they will be hard to hack.

If you currently have a real word or phrase or name as your email password you are asking to be hacked it is really that simple. And think of what all many people keep in their email, any time you register some where it sends a copy of the user name and password information back to you. etc.
Never think it won't happen to you!

I just had to help my sister I had told her numerous times her dogs name was a terrible password, it is short a real word and only letters. Yet she was astonished when hers was hacked. I knew it would happen but trying to get people to understand that for some reason is about impossible till it happens to them which is so unfortunate.

About the only thing that you can do is contact the email client and tell them what happened and hope they believe you and reset the password, if not you may have to abandon that address and start new. It can happen in any email client, my sister was yahoo.

contact Hotmail as soon as possible to get them aware of the problem.

check your settings, I have had a hotmail account for years and it does not do what you are saying, I currently have 20plus pages of read emails. I know it is time to clean it out but just have not had time. I have never seen one that deleted mail that way, has to be something in the settings. do you not like thunderbird? you can still use it. You could use another web client and let it collect your hotmail email for you and keep it there one I use is inbox.com and gmx.com. I like gmx.com quite a bit. I have it set up to get my email from other accounts and keep it there so I can view it all at one spot. To do that all you need to do is give it the username and password to the email account you want it to connect to and collect the email from.

I 'block' email addresses in Hotmail with no problem. In a nutshell, go to your Hotmail and click on Options in the upper right hand corner. Choose More options Under "Preventing junk email" choose Safe and blocked senders Fill in their email address in the "Blocked email address or domain:" box and click Add to list Viola! If you get another one before getting him blocked just check the box in front of his email (in the inbox list) and choose Sweep. Then choose Block from. Then choose Block all. Once you hit 'enter' you should get the message, "Okay, you've added securityupdate@suntrust.com to your block list." It sounds like you probably did not have the addy on your actual blocked sender list.

Hotmail/Live/Outlook.com (all the same!) goes down. A lot. It has nothing to do with your end's equipment. If one of their servers goes south, it drags. It shows up badly because it keeps EVERYTHING except your message headers and preferences on its servers. That includes your attachments, mail, mail aliases, and address book. You rely on their servers to be hot and spicy, and they ain't always so. If you complain (I have) they'll get back to you after things are fixed and report no problem found.

Me and computers have our problems and I just now realized I lost the same line. I finally found the problem. If you click on the symbol for "full page screen" at top right you will probably have the line back. It is between the - and the X. Good luck!

You're right, Raven. He DOES use dogs and cats names ...past and present along with a few numbers on the end. They are only five or six characters long. I'll give him your advice. Thanks. .

I know so many people do that .I have had my hotmail account since the early 90s and never hacked. Now hotmail will no longer allow insecure passwords it pops up saying the password is not secure enough to choose something stronger.
