I love the expression on the old guy's face ... and the reflection in the glasses (which the librarian noticed). She tells me that the head librarian here had a birthday yesterday, today is mine ... and hers is tomorrow!

When I went unannounced to visit a friend a couple of weeks ago (the one who took the pics of my car for the contest for a major discount on a new one last year) she was busy on the phone, said that she was up to her knees in alligators with a major hurtful issue for a couple of weeks and sent me on my way with apologies.

I'd misplaced her phone no. or would have called to say that she could call if she wanted to talk any time while she was under stress, or that I could go with her to another city to be with her during the trouble, if she wished, but didn't find her at home. Should have left a note.

Son, that doesn't believe in God, and his lady had been undecided about attending a Robbie Burns supper at the church on Saturday night, but had agreed to come so I'd got tickets.

Stopped at the lady's house en route - she'd left a note on thhe door for a friend to say that she was hurting and had gone next door for a hug from a friend ... so I went over and gave her a big hug, too.

Asked whether she'd like to come to the supper, and she agreed ... and I've hoped that she could meet son one day, as they'd talked on the phone (about the pics of the car).

So - we had a nice party, even though the lady's distress was some apparent.

Plus ... I'd been asked to help with communion at church yesterday.

So it's been an eventful and gratifying weekend. And step-sis (took me to Saskatoon a few weeks ago and I had dinner with her and her daughter) sent a nice card with some interesting family discussion ... and a card from dead brother's daughter who'd organized the birthday party for her mother in Edmonton a couple of months ago arrived today.

Plus, I have to get my car licence renewed today.

Thanks for all of your good wishes, folks: I'm enjoying them.

Oh - and I forgot to mention ...

... when I went to visit a friend on Sunday afternoon (the one who works part-time helping out at St. Vincent de Paul recycling reusable stuff) who gave me a bag of men's socks a couple of months ago) ...

... he demonstrated a new wrinkle - his underwear/briefs, from a major manufacturer ... has (wait for it!) a draw-string!

He says that it's the latest thing!

(How come I didn't think of that - and patent it! - I'd be set for life!).

Don't someone tell them, please, that it'll make their underwear usable for a much longer period - or they'll deep-six the idea, right?

I wished you Happy Birthday, yesterday, but I'll do it again. You did a great job yesterday with Communion. I like the way it is done - so different than many.

Drawstring is quite an idea. Probably simpler than the elastic one you talk about. Why not just wear the ones your son and his lady friend got you.

It'd be a shame ...

... were someone to tell Hanes ...

... that a drawstring'd likely make them last quite a lot longer ...

... or they'd more'n likely dig a deep hole and bury that idea!
