My 4 days off was horrible!

I was so looking forward to another 4 day weekend with so much planned around here...then I got sick! We did get to go out to dinner Friday night, then the next day it hit me. Sore throat, stuffy head and flu! I've been in and out of bed for the last 3 days. I don't know how anyone can stay in bed so long....I hurt so bad from laying around! I coughed so hard on Saturday and now my ribs are so sore I can't cough or sneeze without doubling over. I never ever get this sick....occasional cold but never the achy flu feeling. Thank God that feeling only lasted one day, the rest of the days I was just drained. I'm feeling better tonight, just had to get up a sit for awhile. I feel so bad for bed ridden people...the boredom and aches and pains would do me in on a long term basis. Dh was great...the kitchen was spotless everytime I got up and the laundry was caught up too! He usually keeps things nice and tidy anyway when I can't get to it. I just felt bad because I know he was bored and would have rather gone out for a ride somewhere, but he didn't complain. He's a keeper.....:O)

So glad to hear you're feeling a bit better, and that it didn't last too long. It hit me the Friday night before Christmas, and I'm still not quite over it. Thank goodness my hubs didn't get it! Mine's a keeper, too!!

Sorry to hear that! Are you watching kiddos again tomorrow? Oh, that would be so hard. I am a preschool teacher but we don't go back until the 7th. Healing vibes to you!

awm : thank you for the sweet and supportive wishes. I sure hope your ride goes well. Two of the folks I am with have done that ride and loved it. We are indeed fortunate in the support we get from our families. tina thank you too. I will keep up the updates as it helps to clarify things in my head too :). I am glad you are enjoying it. golddust. we had flashing lights but it was just a miserable set of circumstances....hopefully not to be repeated. Glad you like my TALL tales. Sue yes it never has stormed today but we have had a fine time. We walked several miles to go to a Dollar Store and to stretch our legs. Time for a nap I think. Your trip sounds wonderful. I bet you will always cherish that time as will I this trip. Most likely won't do another as I don't want to leave DH this long again but this one time it is good. More later. c

OK. At this point, throwing numbers around isn't that helpful. Because the only ones that matter are the ones Fishies gets from her local contractor. I just wanted to respond to this: In this situation, you're dealing with a contractor who works on expensive projects for people who have the resources to do them. You aren't those people. There is something called zip code pricing. Contractors charge more in wealthier ares. To put it bluntly, the rich vastly overpay. I know this for an absolute fact, being able to compare specific projects with specific materials and standards of workmanship for situations I am personally familiar with. There are several reasons. First, the rich like to brag. At parties in one town near me, wealthy people have been heard to brag about having Siemans electrical panels and seen to roll their eyes at 200 amp service. Not all these houses are that large--land costs are high, so small houses can be expensive--and clearly much of this work is unnecessary when you actually see the houses and appliances. It's a boasting point that adds to cost, and the rich have a tendency to choose more expensive solutions not because they need them, but because they always deserve "the best." Second, the rich don't like people with accents. In my renos I always found the best workmanship and best prices by selecting immigrant contractors. Around here, the rich don't mind Latino workers but they expect the GC to be well-spoken, well-dressed and American-born. Third, the rich like paperwork and bureaucracy. They expect their phone calls to be picked up promptly by an "office girl" and want a "team" working on their project. One of the most expensive builders near me has tons of complaints on Angie's list and charge very high prices. Those prices go to support many layers of management, but not necessarily to a customer's benefit--it's more about their own internal red tape. But their prices make them a name builder and so people covet their signs for their lawns. Again, not all rich people are like this of course. But this is a real market, and one that certain "prestige" builders specialize in. Which is why the rest of us know to avoid those companies.

cjhwillis, First off, I would like to point out that while a Doberman or a Rottie may not be a "Bully Dog" most people certainly consider them one. I work with a local Bully Breed rescue and trust me, any large mean looking dog is considered a Bully Breed by the general public. Point made since you are the first one to dispute this classification! :-) Also, when I was naming all the large breeds you mentioned I was doing so because the OP had stated that all dogs large enough to kill should be eradicated!!!!!! In addition, the Doberman also comes from Great Dane descent. There are also many, many dogs that have these different descents. I don't agree that because a breed has a bully breed in its descent that makes it a bully breed. Which brings me to my next point, (since we are getting down to specifics) you are misinformed on what technically is a Bully Breed. Mastiffs are one of the oldest breeds of dog dating back to Aristotle, Philip the Second, Alexander the Great, etc. / 400 - 300 B.C. Too many breeds to list have Mastiff in their ancestry. The only Mastiff that is considered a Bully Breed is the Bull Mastiff coming from a Mastiff and Bulldog descent. A bully breed has all to do with being of Bulldog descent, not Mastiff. Bulldogs were originally bred to fight Bulls in the Arena (hence their name) and was developed in the 13th century. Yes, they are of Asiatic Mastiff descent yet, as I mentioned, Mastiffs are one of the oldest breeds and there are too many dogs to list that are of their descent. Also, in your list of bully breeds you seemed partial to large breeds. You forgot to list the Boston Terrier which was originally called the Boston Bull and is from English White Terrier & English Bulldog descent. Avg. size 15 - 20 lbs. Also, the French Bulldog whose descent is from the Chincha Bulldog. Avg size is 22-28 pounds. Breeds that are classified as Bulldog Breeds (Bully Breeds) are as follows: Boxer, English Bulldog, Old Englishe Bulldogge, Amercian Bulldog, French Bulldog, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, Valley Bulldog, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier, Boston Terrier, Bull Mastiff, and Banter Bulldogge. You had listed the Cane Corso Itailiano as a Bully Breed, this breed is of direct descent of the Canis Pugnax (Roman Mollosian), no Bulldog in this breed. Sweetrain: "Latex over oil primer is fine. Remember it's PRIMER not paint. But never ever try to paint latex over oil PAINT. If you do don't try to wash it cuz it will just rub off. The key word here is PRIMER not paint. Primer is primer, paint is paint, two different things. My DH has never heard of a primer with a sheen, he says thats the paints job. DUH! My DH comes from a painting family. Been in business for over 50 years. So I'm hoping that FIL and DH have learned SOMETHING over the years. LOL" Yep, exactly right. My dh has been in the paint biz for 32 years both as painter and manufacturer's rep and that is the recommended way.

Do you think you had the flu? I can't remember from the "flu shot" thread awhile back whether you said you'd had a flu shot this year or not. There are sure a lot of nasty *bugs* going around here! Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear you've been sick, Gwanny. I hope you're all better soon, and it's so nice when there's someone there to care for you when you're sick. My Woody is like that, I really am grateful for that. I don't get sick often, but when I do, it's usually a bed for 3 days for me, which is hard when you have 4 dogs. He just takes over, it's great.

I woke up Saturday morning, and was so sick, I really didn't get out of bed until Tuesday.
Not flu, more probably a sinus infection that went amok because my RA medications were "fresh" and increased just the day before Christmas, putting my immune system at it's lowest point.

Oh well, we did have a wonderful Christmas, I just missed some parties afterwards.

Keep an eye on those ribs, if they still hurt in a few days get the dr to check them out, once my DH's uncle cracked a rib he coughed so hard.

Glad you are feeling better but sorry your plans for your long weekend got messed up.

Sounds like what I've had. Make sure it hasn't turned into pneumonia, like mine did. I got the flu shot, but not a pneumonia shot. I'll get both next year.

Did you try the Vaseline on the bottom of your feet, remedy?

Oh thats awful Vikki!
I made a mental note to myself while we were at DD's this week-end to take some extra Zinc cause it seems like I have been running on little sleep and little more than coffee for over 2 weeks now, I think if I don't boost my immune system I'd be down for awhile too.

Thanks everyone....I am feeling a tiny bit better, but still kind of weak. I think it's from laying around for 3 days. I do have kids today but told them all to pick them up by 12:00. That way they can still get paid for their holidays and I can still have some down time....still get a little dizzy if I do too much. Seth isn't here, he had a doctor appt. and one other little girl is sick today, so it's not too bad, but I'd rather be alone! DS just had to go in to get things started at work then he left to get Austin and went home. I just don't want the kids getting sick from me.....it'll be a cycle that will go on forever here! DS #3 is here to help me also.....he loves the kids.
