Delta: I love that chair rail organizer idea, unfortunately I don't think we have the wall space for anything like that. Almost all the walls will have furniture against them or back up to a door--except for the corner where the oak hutch is now which I'll probably put her easel there until she outgrows it in another year or so. I do agree she needs some type of hanging coat rack and saw a few iron with curlicue ones on eBay--but that's for the finishing touches. What did you think of the Barely Teal I have above? It's the lightest color on the aqua strip. lyban: Hmmm... the lime ones do look pretty good. I'll have to look at those some more when I get ready to order my next batch of samples. DD prefers aqua with lime accents. We currently have an accent wall, but I don't think it works in a room her size--also was thinking the same with an accent ceiling. I'm actually wondering if it'd be better to paint the ceiling the same as the walls to give it a more expansive feeling? As much as I like the seafoam furniture, I feel it's starting to pull this room in another direction. I was thinking the color that would really compliment it is a pale lavender... but that is not DD's wish. Hopefully some kind soul will take pitty on me and lend some photoshop help so I know which direction to go for paint samples.

What a good mommy you are! The new bedroom sounds dreamy enough for any little princess. How to stay motivated? It helps me to have some excitement about the final outcome. Do you have any inspiration pics to put up on the fridge to keep your spirits up and your motor running? There are a number of them in the Gallery in the post on kids rooms. I get audio book CDs from the library and listen to them in the kitchen, or wherever I have mindless work to do. I love them. I'll bet if you snoop the web you can order a ready-made slipcover for that chair for not too much money. You might start with eBay and amazon.com. On the sewing, all you're talking about is sewing straight lines. That isn't difficult. Seems to me you must have a gf who would be happy to come over and supervise you until your "rust" is off. That would be a lot less daunting than a class, to me at least. Your mom or mom-in-law might like to help. When our kids are grown and gone, we suddenly feel unwanted, useless. We are thrilled if we're asked to help. We feel valued, and if we're retired we have the time. Well, most of us, anyway. If yours don't live close they could at least sew a pillow or something. Just a thought that could improve family relations and lighten your load. Make a family party out of it. You supply the steaks, hot dogs, the barbee, and the paint, and invite them all. They can bring salad, dessert, etc, and extra paint brushes or whatever. I'm looking forward to helping with my granddaughter's bedroom makeover somewhere in the next few months. I'm really excited about it and I'm collecting ideas. One idea I ran across is these giant tissue paper flowers. They would be so darling hung from a little girl's ceiling. Do you like those? I'm learning as I go, though I do think getting the right tools/paint for the job is very impt. so be sure to post a separate thread before you start. ttodd: Thanks for the compliment. I was thinking about going a glaze on it, but not sure how that would work since all the other pieces were not glazed (and I don't want to go back and glaze them all). I've enjoyed reading your techniques on getting the distressed shabby chic look. I'd love to try it sometime--just need to find the right piece. Is your DD's room complete? caroline: I am with you on the chipped paint look; that is until amysrq posted some stunning photos of a distressed made-to-look-old cabinet recently. But for girls rooms, I definitely prefer the fresh look of newly painted vintage furniture. sheesharee: It would've been a lot easier if I spray painted it; however I don't own a sprayer and since I'm doing all furniture in my DD's room, it's not a job for Rustoleum. I ended up using different sized brushes. I'm not totally happy how it turned out as you can see some brush marks, but finally decided to stop messing with it and call it done. work_in_progress:08: The seat was actually the easiest part of the whole project; though I didn't mess too much with what was already there. I took off two layers of fabric and then it was covered in a burlap like covering. Inside were some cushion and springs--that I left intact. I covered it all with some batting and the fabric using a staple gun. vampiress: Yes, she does. I'm going to make a couple of pillows for her bed as well using the faux fur. fillagirl: Would love to hear about your plans for your DD's room.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to offer advice! Like suggested I definitely do not show any disappointment to my DD as she loves it so far, and is at the sweet age where she really loves pretty much anything we do in that room. (And yes, I am prepared and excited for the eventual re-decoration years down the road :-) I have to laugh at myself about the "small room" comment I made. I didn't ever get my own room without having to share with *somebody* until I was 22! I mulled over all the ideas - I moved the dollhouse down next to the bed, and the desk under the window and I like that better already. Tonight I will try the desk next to the bed - there is room for a 48" desk there (will shop for something antique/vintage). Most homework / work gets done in the dining room and by the time we need a hardcore work desk the dollhouse will probably go by the wayside :-( I have decided to not paint the wood dresser for now. I googled and found a few images on Houzz (I just discovered and love that site!!) posted at the very bottom if anyone is interested that show a mix of wood and cream / white that I was kind of envisioning, so hopefully I can pull off that look. And I do agree a nice dose of pretty fabrics will help the room more! I would like to attempt to keep the current rug, as it does have a bit of pink in it. And will be looking for some kind of younger / girlier fabric that still works with the darker rug. I can always move the rug elsewhere if it still doesn't work.
