electric heat vs. LP gas stove

Three years ago we bought an upstate NY house heated by electric baseboard - prior owner complained of ruinous electric bills in Winter. So we put a 30,000 btu LP gas insert in a hardly ever used fireplace on the main floor, and a 20,000 btu stove in the main room on the lower level. I think we have done pretty well, using LP as the basic heat source, with electric heat only in peripheral rooms.

But lately, the cost of LP has gone up to $2.79/gal (it was $1.90/gal when we moved in), and electric is 9 cents/kwh at night and 14 cents/kwh in the day.

So ... I'm tempted to turn the gas stoves off (or very low)and use electric at night, but I'm not really sure that is the best value.

How can I compare the cost of the heat I get from electric and LP? The electric babseboard heaters were replaced throughout at the same time we installed the gas stove and insert (2004).

Thanks for any advice.
