I need help, is the wisdom teeth coming out?

If it is just abcessed and painful, it cannot hurt your other teeth, but an abscess is a serious health problem. If it were me I would call the dentist in your city ask if they would help you. Most are willing to help someone in pain, even if they are closed. My dentist gave us his cell phone and told us to call day or night if we needed help. He also said "don't go to the ER".

Ok, I'll tell my story, which is not pretty, but may, in some small way make you feel better Cliff, if only because it isn't your story. I had mine out in my early 20s, all four at once. All four impacted. The dentist had to cut each one into pieces to get it out. When they were done (it took a team), I was given codeine. I am very seriously sensitive to codeine. The dentist was told this. He didn't listen. So my mouth was so swelled up I couldn't really open it, and I was puking. Yep, out my nose. For days. Codeine is a sensitivity that gets worse each time you take it. That was my last time. It can screw with your stomach so that no amount of bread and milk will fix it. You just have to go empty, and starve for awhile, to get it out of your system. The dentist had one ray of sunshine for all of that agony. He said if I had been puking through my mouth, I might have infected the holes. Thanks doc. Next time, read the chart, that clearly says I will puke on codeine. Hope you're feeling better, or at least better than the kid who was puking through her nose did. :)

If you can get a shower door done without sacrificing any of those beautiful tiles, I would do that. Someone somewhere has to have a curved piece or a cut piece of glass that can be fused to another to correct that little angle thing. Even if there is some metal fitting that would go up the sides of BOTH edges of the shower glass (put one on the other side for consistency, the REST of it could be frameless. (Just match your shower hardware if you go the metal strip route.)

I know that there is a chocolate mousse yogurt put out by Dannon, but I don't know how to make it. Other ideas: Cold: Cold broth Hummus (Recipe follows) Peanut butter (whipped with a little honey and milk if it's too thick to eat) Warm: Mashed potatoes Cider (great treat in the cold weather, anyway) Grits Cream of wheat (with applesauce mixed in) pureed soups (which you are already doing) Hummus Recipe 2 - 3 cloves garlic, peeled and sliced 2 - 3 green onions, sliced into 1" pieces a handful of parsley 16 oz can of chick peas/garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed well 6 TBSP tahini 6 TBSP fresh lemon juice 1 tsp cumin 1 tsp cayenne salt to taste Chop the garlic, green onions and parsley in food processor. (But don't puree yet.) Add the remaining ingredients and set on high until the mixture is smooth. Add water if it needs thinning. Normally I would eat this on carrot sticks, but I feed it to my son straight. Smoothies: 1/4 c. frozen blueberries 1/4 c. frozen strawberries 1/4 c. pineapple yogurt 1/2 c. orange juice OR 1 really ripe banana (frozen) 1/2 tsp. vanilla (or to taste) 1/2 c. milk (or to desired consistency) I hope your DD feels better soon! ~Amanda

Joanie--Where do you live? There is a craniofacial pain center at Tufts dentistry school in Boston that is terrific for TMJ. Unfortunately TMK falls between the cracks " of medicine, physical therapy, dentistry, etc. And as someone said above, it has many different causes. Some of the things that a place like Tufts might suggest: - A night guard, but one specifically for TMJ. They're different from the ones made for grinding, although they help with that too. The TMJ guards have a protuberance on top that holds your lower jaw in a certain position. - Manipulative physical therapy. These are the folks who actually lay hands on you. For TMJ, the physical therapist snaps on some latex gloves and actually massages pressure points inside your mouth. There are several jaw muscles that are hard to manipulate and cannot be relaxed through stretching etc. This can be a huge help. (If you can't find one of these professionals locally, at least buy a book about trigger points.) - Posture work. Someone can show you on a demonstration skeleton how a problem with back posture, shoulders, hips, knees or even feet can cause you to hold the jaw in a bad position. For example, tilt your hips, and y our shoulders have to tilt in the opposite direction. Then your neck tilts sideways to compensate. It's the way we're built. Computer work is a particularly bad offender when it comes to posture. - Relaxation techniques. As someone said above, stress isn't a particularly good word here. You can be happy as a clam and get terrible neck or TMJ pain from working at a computer without good eyeglasses. There is lots that can be done.

Hope you got your teeth problem solved. Best way to tell if wisdom tooth coming in sideways against tooth next to it is open your mouth & look with a flashlight, may need a friend to look if on top & see if there is a tooth part way through or top doesn't look like it should. If it is coming in sideways it can get very painfully. I had 1 like that. They can come in any age from around 17 to 40 or so. I was in late 30's when I had 3 taken out. There was no 4th 1. 2 had come in 1 looking fairly normal but hurting when I ate & other sideways. 3rd 1 was not out yet but in odd position so I was put under & had it all done same day. Then you have to have food & drink that is pretty much room temp for several days. I thought I could drink Iced Tea & I ended up looking like I had mumps, told dentist I thought ice was good for injury etc. He said, not in the mouth!!! So take a good look & see what is going on. If there is no tooth but gum is very painful something else may be going on. Good Luck!

Mine eventually came out and were then pulled. Not all at once. I still have one stuck in there which have many fine nerves wrapped around root - they left that one in.

I recently had the last of three pulled a couple years ago.

Don't freek about pain unless it is overwhelming! I use hydrogen peroxide to gargle. It foams like crazy when there is an infection brewing.

I also do oil swishing. Be careful with over the counter pain relievers. Did you know tylenol has shellac in it and can damage kidneys? yech.

Pain is your body telling you something. Listen to it. But don't freak out. I had a filling redone and it hurt for months. Takes a very long time for soft tissue to heal. If I had complained to dentist, I am certain there would have been an unnecessary root canal done to shut me up. So I watched. I cleaned. I rinsed. I let it heal. NO PROBS today and NO ROOT CANAL which I sometimes wonder if they are needed at all.
