I'm in the 28th week of 31 of taking Herceptin & Taxol for breast cancer. In August, I had a complication where my white blood count went down and I contracted pneumonia & pancreatitus for which I came close to dying.

For the past couple of days, I haven't felt like myself, real moody, super depressed and anxious. Does anybody have a clue what could be going on? I've even had thoughts of suicide. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Gale, I'm so sorry for all your trouble. Could you call your doctor tomorrow? I know it's Sunday, but this is very serious. If you have friends and family, you should let them know too, right away.

Gale, it could very well be your medicine, or another complication like before, but please, please and pretty please call someone in your family tonight, and let them know how you feel. Please post and let us know you are OK. And then call the Doctor for sure tomorrow. Don't let us worry here, just before Christmas. Find out whats wrong. Please!

Thank you all for your kind thoughts! Our modem on the computer wasn't working on Tuesday night. It started out fine but completely died around 8:00 p.m. I tried rebooting the computer and turning the DSL box off and on. Nothing worked. When I looked at the computer settings, the modem wasn't being recognized so I figured it croaked. I watched TV the rest of the night and sulked. The computer worked just fine for Bob later Tuesday night after I went to bed. On Wednesday, it worked just fine too. I was finally able to look at my Facebook page and saw a post from my brother with a link to the eulogy he wrote for Mary's memorial on Tuesday night! I totally missed her memorial/wake! I was so hurt that no one told me about it. Then I checked my cell phone and called my voicemail. My sister left a message on Monday telling me about the wake. I never saw anything on my cell phone saying I had a message. I am convinced that Mary was haunting me on Tuesday night and made the modem on my computer stop working. I think she was telling me she was a little upset that I didn't make her memorial and wasn't able to say my formal good-bye. I feel so hurt and upset that no one made sure I knew when it was! I check my email and Facebook every day so they could have contacted me that way. I feel so awful that I am embarrassed to go to Mary's daughter's wedding in a couple of weeks. They will think I'm an awful person for missing her memorial. I don't have any of their phone numbers or email addresses. *sigh* As if her death wasn't bad enough. At least I know she cares enough to haunt me.

OP, as you already understand the cultural norm in the US for our pets end of life issues is different than in other places in the world. I grew up in 50s-60s when most people in the US still lived on farms and barn cats just went away to die on their own - they never lived long, and it was like one day you just didn't see them. Things have changed. Something happens when you live with and love an animal for 10-20 years, the bond is incredible as well as the sense of responsibility and obligation - that sense of moral responsibility I think is behind people's strong feelings about not letting their animals suffer - as well as their own personal emotional needs. My own cat was back and forth for many months and in the end it was starting to come down to a choice of either I watch my cat die what would probably be a slow torturous death (breathing issues) or choose to end it via euthanasia. My previous cat died relatively peacefully on her own, fading away over a period of several months. But that was simply NOT an option with my Kashka. As much as I would have wanted that for her. Niether was letting her go off and die on her own like a barn cat. It was not "quality of life" question anymore. It had come to what is the quality of death. In other words - neither option I can say was a "good" one, or even the "right" one. It just boiled down to which was the least awful for her and for me. Sometimes in life that's how it is. BTW my vet was so helpful - completely frank when I asked about what would her death be if I did nothing and how would she experience it. As time goes on this becomes more of a known thing that your vet can and should talk to you about and describe for you - if you haven't already had that talk with him or her. I was never told that either. Now you tell me! :-) I have been meaning to ask chemocurl or any of you other chemo patients, did you keep your curl after it started growing in? I was thinking that if I had to go through chemo maybe it could come back red and curly. Well it is silver and curly.I have always been a blonde with very straight hair. I have only had hair for about a month now, and I still can't get use to seeing myself in the mirror. Every time I see a mirror, I scare myself. I don't recognize me. It is getting better, but I was wondering if yours came in more on one side than the other. I had the radiation on the right side, and I have nice wavy hair on the left side but very short on the right side.

Oh Kat, I wish I could be with you during your chemo. It may sound strange to some, but I have fond memories of my chemo buddies and all the laughs we shared while being infused. Can't think of anyone I'd rather be with. :) I've never forgotten what generous support I received from you and my KT family during my chemo and recovery. You'll always have my hand to hold and shoulder to lean on. It's a plus you are feeling so well at this time so you can charge ahead and defeat this damn cancer. Your KT Army is pulling for you!! Thank you all so much for your concern. I got in touch with my oncologist and she put me on Zoloft. I'm feeling better. The black cloud is slowly disapating (sp?). Sorry for feeling so desperate in my post, but, it helped to get it out, so, thank you for listening.

taxol is nasty stuff....ask me how I know!!
I guess it zaps the cancer nasties, but makes you feel icky while it's doing it's work! They call it an "easy chemo"...but it's not!
I have neuropathy in my feet because of the stuff....but I am 9 years cancer free...
Hang in there...take the zoloft....and it will get better!

I am curious about what Stage breast cancer you had when you were diagnosed?

My sister also had breast cancer and was preparing for "High Dose?" chemo when they found a spot the size of a quarter on one of her lungs. She did the whole retrieving of stem cells (a 2 day process) prior to this. Some stupid nurse told her "don't worry about that spot, the High Dose Chemo will just wipe it out along with everything else". Wrong. They wouldn't attempt this terrible chemo if it had
metastasized anywhere in the body. She was only One (1) frigging day away from the start of what she considered her final chance.

She never gave up. Even when they said "no" to the High Dose Chemo, she still insisted that they try everything possible to stop this morbidly fascinating disease.

Tomorrow will mark her 11 year anniversary of losing the battle of a lifetime.

She was my hero; everybody who has/had cancer and tried to fight it is my hero, as I could never do what any of these people have done. I know that I would just give up. I just couldn't go through with "EVERYTHING YOU HAVE TO". I just couldn't.

my Goodness Zoewolf, you couldn't think of anything encouraging to say??? I'm sorry that your sister died 11 years ago, medicine has come a long way since she died.

Gale, I guess that you will have finished the chemo by now, or will do so soon.

Hope that you are feeling much better. I'm a 6 year survivor and I'm sending you good healing thoughts.
