Double whammy at my doctor visit

Went for my semi-annual bloodwork yesterday (for my cholesterol). When the doctor took my blood pressure, she had a funny look on her face. I kidded her saying "am I still alive?". Turns out my blood pressure is 92 over 50. It was also very low 6 months ago.

I thought I had a urine infection (cloudy and sudsy urine), so I gave a sample. She told me there was protein and blood in the urine, but they'll know more after they send it out for more tests. It may be a kidney infection, which may explain the pains I've been getting in my lower back.

This time of year is depressing enough for me, without all this going on.

Just wanted to vent; thanks for listening.

Hope all turns out well for you........I just went through the bladder and kidney tests as I saw blood in my urine. Found nothing....but makes you wonder where the blood came from. I wish you a good bill of health! Jacque

Do either of you do the aspirin therapy. If I take them daily I will have blood in my urine in a couple of months. Even with baby aspirin.

For sinus sufferers, there was a bit on NPR about lactobacillus sakei and sinus infections...seems to be a strong connection to the good bacteria fighting off the sinus infections. Only thing is, it hasn't been studied yet in humans, but thought I'd mention that there has been some early signs of success with it. Also GF suffers with allergies and she has found that taking OTC antihistamine before or as her allergies begin really helps to control the situation as it keeps it from getting worse and setting up vicious cycles of misery. Though I have no first hand experience, I hope this helps.... what causes sinus infections Acutally this whole human biome business is just beginning to get hot and scientists are just beginning to understand that we shouldn't think of the body as a pristene place with viral and bacterial invaders that need to be wiped out....rather we need to think of the body as a garden where we want to grow the good bacteria so it can keep the bad stuff in check....fascinating stuff. I would have said something and would not go back. That is just me. Due to my chemo I did not go into the dental office to sit with dd during her cleaning. DDS had to speak with me. I asked if we could speak in reception area and he said no, because of HIPPA, even if I said it was ok. He was more than happy to chat outside so as to not compromise HIPPA or my health. My most recent situation brought about a visit which lacked privacy in a very similar way. I had to see the nuc med guy to have dye injected into my breast to light up the lymph nodes. We go into this large room with 4 tables and 4 big MRI/Xray machine thingys. There were curtains dividing the areas. I was taken to table 3, I could hear a man was in 4. As the tech worked on me, discussing my breast and exposing my chest I could hear everything going on with the man in 4. I had to listen to this poor man cough and cough and cough and gag and moan. Several times his tech pulled the curtain, almost exposing me to the man in 4. My tech kept telling him to stop and be more careful. It was very awkward having to have needles poked into my nipple, injecting me with nuc med that burned like acid. I talk through pain and it was awkward telling my tech outloud how much it burned. The whole time I kept thinking how my privacy was being invaded by this man next to me, even though his coughing was probably keeping him from paying much attention to me. That was the most painful part of any treatment I have had to endure both physically and mentally. I won't even dwell on the germs that were floating in the air from that man while a needle was being poked into me. Sherrmann, you might be right. Doubt any office would be that brazen, maybe they are set up like an ER and consider it ok. When I am getting chemo I sit 6' from the next chair and hear their stuff. That is not considered to violate HIPPA so there has to be some small print in the rules. I still would asked for a private room before the exam.

Oh I agree with you. I actually wouldn't care either if SM saw my child's medical records either because honestly I couldn't stop her or control her if I tried. She is married to BD and if he has them, she has them. I tend to do all of the things in our situation so this wouldn't come up at all. part of keeping my 'control' of being the 'mother' is to make sure I am available to take dd to the doctor or dentist etc. If I start delegating out my 'jobs' I might feel that SM is taking over my 'territory' but a lot of mom's don't or can't take on the responsibility of dr visits and SM ends up doing it and then BM is screaming, these are my kids!! Which I believe if I am doing my job, then SM doesn't have to do it and therefore I do not feel territorial or that she is stepping into my place... If your BM is ok with you doing those things then that's great and no one here should be concerned about it. What might be of concern is if you were overstepping and taking over while BM just wasn't faster than you (which I have dealt with) and there was a power struggle of 'who's job' it is... Then there might be concern..

My husband and dd both had their gall bladders out in the past 4 months. You'll feel much better after the surgery. I will say this--dd's dr. didn't tell her not to eat for 24 hours after the surgery; DH had a different surgeon who insisted that he'd feel better if he refrained from eating until the next day. I don't know if that made the difference or not--but DH's recover was MUCH easier than DD's. Could have been other factors involved, of course, but I throw that out, just in case you're interested. In both cases, though, they recouperated pretty quickly. Another thing DH's dr. mentioned--which was helpful to know, was that the day after the surgery, he'd be feeling pretty good, because they sort of 'wash' your insides with an anasthetic solution (at least that's the way he explained it) and it's still helping the next day, but the day after that, you'll feel a little worse, then after that, you recover at a pretty rapid pace. That was true for both DH and DD (although her dr. didn't warn her about it). But it was interesting that the 2 surgeons didn't both tell the patients the same stuff. And neither of them needed the prescribed pain meds--both got by on the occasional tylenol (as approved by their drs.). Hope your recovery is just as easy as both of theirs. And that you feel as well afterwards as my DH has--he'd had stomach problems for years--which had been diagnosed as irritable bowel, but since his GB surgery, those have ALL CLEARED UP--he's been able to eat anything at all, with no problems. Good luck! and get better in time to enjoy the holiday.

my DH has low blood pressure, he doesn't smoke anymore but he still drinks quite a bit and he still has low blood pressure. I tend to think it's one of those things, we don't all fit the mold and where as someone else would end up with high blood pressure, his never even gets up to what would be considered "normal" even when he does eat salty foods or drink alcohol regularly. Obviously if you're on blood pressure meds you would want to cut the dosage but I just think some people are this way normally.

I take a baby asprin every day with my vitamins. I've never taken blood pressure medication. Hopefully this is "normal" for me.

I internalize everything (especially lately), so it surprises me that my pressure is getting lower.

I can't answer about the urine thing but my blood pressure is normally 80/50 and even though I mentioned this to my dr, he wasn't concerned at all. My only problem is that I get dizzy when standing up too fast. I've never smoked and I'm generally healthy, except under weight.

It did scare the nurses when I had a minor procedure. It was 70/46 and I nurse was ready to pull the emergency cord.

Dehydration will cause blood pressure to be low. Are you drinking enough water every day?

If its a kidney infection then you might want to consider curbing your intake of soda/pop until you find out more.

Years ago, I had protein/blood in urine - felt absolutely fine - it was a surprise

Turns out after a kidney biopsy, I had "membranous glomerulonephritis" - which meant protein in urine from kidneys not filtering properly. I had always been in great health, continued eating well - they gave me blood pressure meds for kidneys (not bec of pressure problems) and 9 years later, the protein spillage stopped and I have been in remission for years.

I never felt sick.

You never know what is going on in our bodies. I had it and never knew it. Luckily, it did not manifest into anything else - kidneys are perfect. Very strange disease but could be serious if not looked after.
