Question about my propane hot water heater

alisande

I ran out of hot water today. In the days when we had an electric hot water heater, this usually meant that an element had burned out. But my present hot water heater runs on propane. I assume no elements are involved (?).

My old house has a dirt basement, and the heater sits on a stone slab. The area in front of the heater is wet, but I don't know if this is something new or if it always looks like that. With my dungeon basement, you never know.

Do I need to call a repairman (I just realized we're approaching a long weekend), or is there something I can check on my own?

Thank you!

Susan
