your confusing some terms. I worked for Robbins and at one time we used to say that our products would survive 3 sandings. That went away when Armstrong bought us. You used the term rescreen and that is something you could do forever as it doesn't go down to the wear layer, it just abrated the finish so a new coat can be applied. In reality the thickness of the wear layer is seldom a factor in picking out new flooring. You are walking on the finish not the thickness of the veneer. Most mfctrs do not publicize the thickness so most salesman would not be able to answer your question.

Not too worried if a salesman can tell the thickness or not as it is easily measured on samples. To me the thickness of the veneer matters as far as dents and how many times I could sand something. We all know accidents happen and in my experience the thicker veneer works better for dents and not get splinters as a friend did when dropping something it chipped the thin veneer on their 3/8 overall thick Bruce. I don't mind dents, but rather not have the veneer chipped when I do make a dent.

Bruce still says you can re-sand 3 times on their coastal woodlands at least on the sample boards. When looking at Robbins in the warranty on the fifth avenue plank that I have and they still sell it still shows 3 times for sanding.

thats interesting cause Bruce never talked about resanding when I was there. Bruce and Robbins use the same company for Coastal woodland type products so they should both be comparable. I think those are old samples but I may be wrong. They were doing away with that guarantee in 2004

If you go to their website and look up the warranty information it is in that pdf file. Not all lines have it, but a few still do. Wooland and 5th aveny are a two.

That's good to know on the coastal woodland as I liked the color better of it in the natural than the chablis from Robbins.

The 5th Avenue appears to be a 5 layer vs. a 3 layer for the Bruce. Which one do you think is better? I'm thinking 5 layer is more stable, but I like the color better of the Bruce.

Lyfia are you looking for prefinished or unfinished product? Real Wood Floors engineered unfinished flooring has a 5mm or 3/16" sawn cut wear layer that can be resanded multiple times.

they use different layers based on the stability of the wood used as the veneer. In general more plys are more stable but don't base a buying decision of wether something is 3 vs 5. Factory finished has the advantage of having aluminum oxide which can only be applied in a factory setting.
