Most of the time, upper floors with cement, use a lightweight cement that is not recommended to glue over. Can you take a nail and easily scratch the concretes surface? A floating wood floor, may be your only option. All concrete will have moisture vapor emissions, no matter if it is on the ground floor or on the 100th floor. The only way to know how much, is to test it.

The old will be finished right at your home. This will take longer and be messier. But the results will be terrific. No grooves between boards (crumb catchers), the exact color you want with the finish you like. The existing floors will have great character and look great once refinished. Just be sure to match the species of wood: red or white oak. We selected traditional oak flooring finished in our home.

HI "madaboutkitchens" I am sure your installer was talking about engineered floating wood floors that can be installed directly on your existing parquet. Theoretically,it should work on any sound hard surfaces. In reality, you would want to consider the height drop from your new wood floors to other floor coverings in our house. Is there any proper transition moldings available to connect? Will you be happy with the final look? The door jambs have to be cut and base boards have to be raised up. These should all be well planned or foreseen before any actions. Hope my 2 cents can help. Good luck with your project.

My FAVOURITE trick when looking for a reputable floor to install in a home is to talk to a reputable Ma-and-Pa FLOORING store that has 25+ years in business in your TOWN/area! Once you walk through the door, look for the OLDEST sales person on the floor. Once you have Senior Sales Manager 'Ed' in front of you, go ahead and ask HIM/HER (Edwina's abound out there) to point you to the wood floor product they have had the LEAST amount of problems with. And then stick with that line. You are obviously not shopping for "super bargain basement flooring". You are looking for decent, hassle free engineered hardwood that is BEST SUITED to your AREA. The best people to offer that advice = long-time local dealers who have already done the "culling" for you. They will have kicked any product that does NOT perform to the curb. They will ONLY stock product that has worked well in the past. Remember, if you have problems with your floor then so do they. You will only have ONE problem with ONE purchase. They could have problems with DOZENS of purchases. So they will be extra cautious about what they sell, where and to whom. They may want to make money, but they do NOT want to make trouble. Go ahead and find a few of these 25+ year stores and go have a look. Ask for the oldest sales person there (if you are in luck you will get the owner who has had the business for 25+ years). You will be surprised that they aren't that much more expensive and they ONLY carry stuff that is hassle-free. Good luck.
