anyone know about ZOUNDS hearing aids?

My husband is considering getting hearing aids and recently got an ad in the mail for a rechargable hearing aid --"ZOUNDS". does anyone have any first hand knowledge or experience with these? Thanks for any info!!

Has he seen an ENT physician lately for a good evaluation. Not all hearing problems can be corrected with hearing aids. You can spend a lot of money and get little or no improvement.

Never, never, never waste your money on one that you get from a mail order outfit.

Agnespuffin: thanks for your reply...these are not from a mail order outfit, it was just an ad explaining who in our area was carrying this brand now. They are sold through physician's offices and there is also a mall store carrying them. I guess the appeal is that they are rechargeable, no batteries..and I was wondering if anyone had tried them yet.

There was aheavy set woman that died a few years ago,i think of a massive heart attack.She used to come on Simply Quilts,and toured around the world teachin her trade.Several of the ladies that were in the quilt guild i used to belong to knew her personally from taking her classes.For some reason i want to say Pinky something,yet i don't think that's right.Anyone know who i am thinking of??? I've worn hearing aids since I was 25 and it's very important to go to an audiologist. I first went to Tufts Medical in Boston and was diagnosed and treated and, since then, I go to an audiologist I trust and admire. I'm completely deaf now due to otostenosis but, due to technology, I have hearing aids that access the middle ear to allow me to hear. People look at my sideways when they see me talking on my phone with the hearing part placed above my ear, that's how I hear through a tiny chip that transports vibrations. I also have a unit that I have plugged in on the tv that sends the sound to that same chip and only I hear it. There are so many types of aids and the dr. will know which type is the best for you depending on your loss and your age. Many older people seem to have trouble adapting. I understand that. If you have a large hospital near you, start with an appt. with an ENT and continue from there. They have a broader base of clients and a better expertise. State clearly how much you want to spend as it can get quite pricey. Hope this helps.

Here testing by an audiologist or hearing aid specialist is free regardless of age. And most offer free 30/45 day trials. I have had better luck with the hearing aid specialist company than my local audiologist. The specialist has a direct line to an audiologist at Phonak, the brand that I have. I have the top of the line and also purchased the TV and Music set. Mine are 4 or 5 years old so technology has changed. My hearing loss is in the lower frequencies as opposed to higher frequencies. Mine is much harder to correct and I have struggled for years. I had a free checkup last week and learned that my right ear loss has increased. And of course, they wanted to sell me the latest and greatest new model. Haven't decided yet. I wish we had a Costco. The closest is an hour and a half away. Anyway, good luck!

Michelle Rockwell, if you are still considering the same plan, here a few changes (plan is flipped to match elevations). In the kitchen, recess the fridge deeper into the pantry and put a door to the bedroom hallway in the corner. It can be make to look like a pantry cabinet, and will give you a straight shot to the kids' bedrooms (and vice versa). The island is a little longer, to increase prep space to the right of the sink. Make sure the fridge door on the left will open fully against the stub wall (check fridge specs for distance needed.) Move the stairs m/l as Felix suggests, but make the office deep enough to locate the door off the foyer. Move stairs toward the kitchen, so the entry from the garage passes under the upstairs landing. I added a closet under the highest part of the stairs, with pull-out storage under the lower stairs. Since the office is deeper, I moved the wall in to widen the garage entry hall (not sure if the jog circled in red can be changed). The closet in the upstairs BR will need to be changed, and the landing will be deeper. The bump-out on the back roof line will also be shallower. I made the PR smaller, to line up with the new stair location, and extended the master hallway, to make the built-ins around the FP the equal widths. Mudroom and laundry were adjusted, and an entry from the master closet was added.On the other side of the house, the shared bathroom was relocated, to allow space for another window in each bedroom. Two things I don't care for: distance between master and kids' rooms, but this is a problem for only a few years. I'd be tempted to switch the master with the grandparents' room for the duration. (You don't say whether grandparents are actually living in the house, so that is another assumption.) The other thing is the kitchen: the size of the kitchen relative to the size of the house, and no landing space beside the fridge. I wish there were more storage and counter in the kitchen--I know I reduced both by removing the short L, but given the choice, I'd want easier access to the kids' rooms. Storage under stairs:

Oh, I see!! It certainly would be worth looking into.

The regular batteries are inexpensive and it's easy to carry a spare pair. I tend to forget to do things and I would probably forget to recharge.

Do they mention how long the batteries work between charges? It does sound interesting.

Do yourself a favor and forget this company. Go with ANY other company. They have only been in business a few years, have already filed for bankruptcy once, have high employee turnover and are rumored to have extremely high return rates. They also make a bunch of claims that I have yet to see any research/proof on.

In this age, go with a brand/company you can trust.

My BIL and a friend and most of her family wear hearing aids, so I know what I'm talking about. I've heard them talk often about their hearing aids. There are all different kinds of hearing aids. Some just amplify, some cut out the background noise--and on and on. Then their is the fit of the ear piece itself. If you buy off of any tom dick or harry he might not get the right kind for him. I would go with what the doctor said he needed and nothing else

I have a zounds hearing aid, they were my dads and when he passed, I inherited them, . sounds like a funny thing but hearing aids are expensive. Set up an appointment to have them serviced and set to my hearing and that was it. no batteries to change and a charge lasts all day and night very comfortable. I have been using this for 2 years and the batteries are still fine. The only down side is that they are in lady lake now and I live in npr, so have to travel a little. but would recommend this hearing aid to any one that needs one.
