Thanks TD. I will look into the L series to double check - and the 9kw strips. Thanks for the suggestion with the Performance series - the Carrier had already supplied that quote to me as well. But it had the Infinity heat pump as the outside unit with performance everything else. I've asked him to revise the quote - but it looks like the performance setup would be about $2-3k less than the infinity setup. I really do like the idea of the communication with the Infinity setup (like the stat too). I'm OK with the price. I think that number looks average comparing it to other threads on this board. I think my 2 Trane guys were pretty high, but they are the only 2 authorized dealers in town. Bryant Evolution quote came back more than the Carrier Infinity. Thanks for the advice. I might put up the final 2 quotes in a bit to get thoughts - the Performance setup vs the Infinity setup.

trucker first of all, I will assume you are sized correctly. I always recommend that lineset be replaced as long as there is reasonable accessibility. But you should first verify that existing lineset is the correct size for new system and then weigh flushing cost vs new lineset. The Trane air handler you were quoted is the new Hyperion 5 series mdl. While high eff, it is not variable speed. If that's an issue or concern, then upgrade to the *AM7A0C48H41 air handler. Do you have a whole house air filter? if not, I recommend you install one. At the very least I would want HW 8321 thermostat. If you go with a true var speed air handler, then consider HW VP IAQ that has dehumidify on demand feature. It's difficult to make an informed comment on existing ductwork system but I find the $3K price questionable at best. Can you provide more details as to specific problems rewgarding your system other than leaks? Have you asked if repairs can be made? What exactly does dealer propose for new ductwork system? Do you have any hot/cold spots in your home? Adequate number of returns? For Florida, you want R8 insulation at the very least. For heat strip size, I would go with the 7.5K module. What size do you have now? You would rarely if ever use it unless you have breakdown on outside condenser. You could save some bucks if you went with the XR15 HP. IMO

For penpals ryanhughes and tigerdunes: Yesterday was installation of my new Carrier 5-ton Infinity 19 HP with 58MVC100 furnace and Air Purifier. There was also some constructive revamping of my existing ductwork, feeding in my three returns. The startup person came shortly before the installers left, and everything seemed ok, but when the Infinity Controller was first switched on, the warning of high static pressure came on the screen- I think it said 1.33 at 1750 cfm (but not exactly sure if I've got that right). (If I could figure out how to do it, I could post a couple pictures if that would be at all useful.) The system has been running ok since last evening and I expect to have some people return today or tomorrow to try to figure this out. Is there anything that comes to mind as a possible cause and possible fix? Am I doing any harm by running the system until it's figured out? Thanks.

You have been quoted the wrong thermostat on both systems. with the Trane, you have their relatively new communicating air handler. It must have the XL900 thermostat to take advantage of the air handler's capability. with the Carrier system, you want the Carrier thermidistat for best humidity control. I would not buy either system without these changes. dblcheck the warranty on each system. either should do a good job and I suppose price and dealer confidence to be the deciding factors. what size heat strip was quoted? IMO
