An apology to millions of man who died unnecessarily given by the person who invented the PSA screening test
Every year, more than a million men undergo painful needle biopsies for prostate cancer, and upward of 100,000 have radical prostatectomyÃ¯Â¿Â½s, resulting in incontinence and impotence. But the shocking fact is that most of these men would never have died from this common form of cancer, which frequently grows so slowly that it never even leaves the prostate. How did we get to a point where so many unnecessary tests and surgeries are being done? In The Great Prostate Hoax, Richard J. Ablin exposes how a discovery he made in 1970, the prostate-specific antigen (PSA), was co-opted by the pharmaceutical industry into a multibillion-dollar business. He shows how his discovery of PSA was never meant to be used for screening prostate cancer, and yet nonetheless the test was patented and eventually approved by the FDA in 1994. Now, doctors and victims are beginning to speak out about the harm of the test, and beginning to search for a true prostate cancer-specific marker.

It will leave the prostate, I know someone it happened to. He and 2 of his friends had prostate cancer, 2 had it removed, one did not. It spread throughout his body and slowly killed him it was not a nice way to die. My husband had it and the urologist told him it could spread, the oncologist told him it could spread. There was no reason for them to lie, they had nothing to gain. My husband had AZ and they would not remove his because he had AZ and would not remember how to retrain himself. He took radiation treatments. It was not the cancer that killed him.

My DH had a PSA test 7 yrs ago. It was elevated. A biopsy proved he had stage 2 prostate cancer, growing moderately. He had the DaVinci procedure, and showed the cancer had indeed traveled outside the prostate. Thankfully he is OK today, and his annual PSA tests are negative. Please don't be so quick to degrade this test. It saved my DH's life! This is a painless test that is an indicator that further testing is needed.

I am confused. You had mentioned that you did a light root pruning. When you speak of roots coming out from the base bottom. I am assuming that these are now beneath the new soil in the pot you repotted it into? They will become larger (thicker) over time and more will be visible as you raise it every couple years or so. If you raised it a bit when potting it will be fine. Make sure that the caudex does not burn in hot sun and leave in one position when it is acclimatized to sun (when settled after potting) as turning can result in the caudex getting burnt. Rick

Wow. I should check in here more often instead of every few months. Initially I thought the OP was an attempt at satire, but after reading the horticultural oil thread who knows? I kinda hope it isn't supposed to be satirical just because, well, that would be hilarious. But as always, I did get some nice info, this time on Belinda's Dream. Great pic Hoov! I've been thinking about that one because I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose my favorite noisette this winter.

I didn't read this particular book (drug addiction not my thing), but I have to say that I assess works of fiction much more harshly that non-fiction. Not only has the story to be interesting, the narrative must flow, must be well-written, believable, must not rely on too many convenient coincidences, etc. Whereas I am willing to cut nonfiction a bit of slack simply because it's based on reality. One of the worst books I've ever had the misfortune of reading has been Peter Carey's "Wrong about Japan". It's a supposedly nonfiction account of a trip to Japan he took with his son, and is even shelved in the travel section. It's badly written and has no content, but that pales next to the fact that the only interesting character in his story (a rather odd Japanese boy who befriends his son) was completely fabricated. I thought it was extremely insulting to the reader, and although I know he is supposedly a good writer, what with "Oscar and Lucinda" and "The True History of the Kelly Gang", I would now hesitate to pick up one of his books because I don't trust him. There is a genre called autofiction, basically a novel more or less loosely based on biographical facts, and I have read many excellent novels of this type. "Empire of the Sun", by J.G. Ballard, which is based on his childhood in Shanghai and his internment as a young boy in a Japanese camp. "Born Twice" by Giuseppe Pontiggia, which won the Supercampiello (Italy's most prestigious literary award) and is based on the author's life as the father of a disabled son. More recently, "Un secret" by Philippe Grimbert, which has recently been translated in English I believe, is a completely astounding book and almost completely based on true events in the writer's life. It won the Renaudot in France and several reader's prizes, and is guaranteed to make the same sort of splash among English-speaking audiences. I won't spoil the secret of the writer's family history for those who will eventually read this book, but it is well well worth reading.

I've know several men that died of prostate cancer so it is not that rare to die from it. Maybe that test is not good but they need something as by the time these men got to dr they couldn't be saved. Now I've watched a number of women friends die of lung cancer that never smoked. I think it may be the mammograms. I know a couple of times over the years they went to places that do testing & radiation levels were way too high.

Sunnyca most of the women I know that have had breast cancer were diagnosed before their insurance company would pay for the tests. Most in their mid 20's, early 30's. Only a few have/are over 40 which is the suggested age to start mammograms, Other types of radiation such as dental exams are more likely than mammograms.

Dr. Richard Ablin. PSA was NOT a cancer test. It was for mold in the body. No doctor trains in molds or mycotoxins that may mimic cancer.
Cancer is big money maker that will never see a cure.
Did they die from CANCER or...chemo, surgery, radiation, etc???

I know many man who have died from prostate cancer when treated by conventional medicine. I do not know any one who died of prostate cancer who did not get treatment. I close family member was diagnosis with prostate cancer and would not go in for treatment after 10 years he had a fairly normal life finally went for treatment and did not last 6 months.
