My Positive Huntington's Page

I am 24, am experiencing HuntingtonÂs disease symptoms. My family is one of the few in the world who have early onset. I was a Nurse before I got sick. I made a positive, comprehensive website. It has a blog, care giving tips, ways to fight brain fog, myths, my story, my familiesÂ story, history, and ways to have a positive testing experience. I also put on there the poems I got published in the horizon.

heather, I read quite a bit of your page, & it's lovely.

I didn't respond here so as to not take the thread off the top, but since someone else did, I'd like to tell you that your page(s) is wonderful;

Many of us don't know much about Huntington's, & your messages are informative as well as touchingly personal.

First thing I thought when I saw these was that one of the first grateful dead albums had a fisheye shot on the back cover. The shot with the blue agave in the foreground is tops, but the first photo is also cool with the sky looking like a giant moon rising over the building.

What Zone is Lavalette, West Virginia (outside Huntington)?

Go to the gardenweb home page and type in your zip code which you want to find and it will pop up. It just says zone 6, but frankly, I wouldn't worry too much about "A" or "b"....you'll have micro climates which will be slightly warmer, and ones which are slightly cooler. If you plant on things hardy to zone 6, or even to zone 5, you'll be golden.

I used the Firefox(probably available for Chrome too?) add-on called Stylish. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/ I wrote this CSS(Cascading Style Sheet) to make it suit "me". CSS is what Gardenweb used to make it look their way. :) I'm not a programmer, just a do-it-yourselfer so I'm quite certain my code is not optimal... but it works good enough for me. If you want to try it, after installing Stylish, open a gardenweb.com page, select "Write new style -> For gardenweb.com", name it something like "Style Gardenweb" and paste this in, replacing what's already there. http://www.chuggerguy.com/pub/styleGardenweb.txt (Not the link, the text pointed to by the link) The background image I use for the center zone is hosted by me so you may want to change that, just in case I tire of it and change it, my machine dies, I die, or whatever. :) Of course you might just want to parse though it, take what you find useful, and leave the rest. Video is not visible, most likely your browser does not support HTML5 video Edited to add the video(If you don't see it, your browser doesn't do HTML5). You can right click and select view full screen if it's too small to see. Turning on my personal styling makes... a wee bit of a difference. Heather, what a great website you have made to share your story and inform people about Huntington's disease. You have been through so much. Losing your mother at such a young age was heartbreaking for you and your family. Keep the good memories of her close at heart, and let her help you be strong in the face of this difficult medical condition. Continue to "fight for the light." Hi Heather,

I recently lost my mother on August 9th. after a lifelong battle with cancer. My mother developed melanoma cancer when she was 18 years old and survived over 25 operations. One on her face, which left her disfigured, one on her back to remove her spine and insert a 12 in. rod and many more and then she got it in her lung.

Sadly, the complications from treating her lung cancer is what took her life.

You are an inspiration! You have an attitude that closely resembles the attitude my mom had. Her attitude and the way she dealt with her disease is mostly what kept her around until she was 64 years old. She was my hero and I love and miss her very much.

She taught me to never loose faith, never give up hope and spend your time with people who really care about you and you them. Your mother must have been a courageous and beautiful woman to have born such a beautiful spirit as you.

I pray the very best comes your way and wish you the best of luck in this journey you are on!
