Washer and Dryer for 2nd floor : help wanted - confused
Comments (11)I've had a Samsung front loader (and dryer) for 2-3 years now. I love them. I have split level house and they are installed in the bathroom in the upper level. Also the bathroom and 3 bedroom are all at the end of the hallway so there is no more than 10 feet from the washer to any of the bedroom doors. The machines is quiet. I have no hesitations about running it when someone is sleeping. It's actually quieter than my old top loader (which isn't really saying much because that was so loud you could hear it through the whole house). If I'm at the other end of the house someone has to walk to the bathroom to tell if a load is done (because I don't usually have the signal on). I also love the vibration reduction part. My MIL and sister both talk about not placing stuff on their front loaders because it will get bounced off as well as the frequent walks the machine takes. I put things on mine all the time and nothing gets bounced off. Also the machine doesn't walk at all. I recently had to move the washer to get something that get pushed off the back by the kids. The machine had sat in one place so long it was "stuck" to the floor. I love the Samsung, I would replace it in a heartbeat with another Samsung if this one broke....See MoreHardwood floor care tips: area rug & pad, felt pads, how to clean
Comments (4)We are getting our 20 year old hardwoods refinished right now because they are trashed! Here are the "really" bad things we've noticed. Do not push your furniture across the floor! It will leave gouges. Buy tons of felt protective pads in all different sizes and put them on EVERYTHING. You also need to replace them frequently and keep the pads clean (if there is any grit or dirt on the pad the protective pad turns to sandpaper). Put an area rug under the sink/DW and water dispenser to catch drips (and shake and clean under rugs regulary so no dirt is trapped under them). Our kids have plasma cars and they have destroyed the floors so I would say no wheels at all on the floor. Don't push that piano! Swiffers or dust mops are great and help keeping it clean....See Moretotally confused about rug pads! help?
Comments (7)We use both felt and the dura-hold pads. The all felt pads are my favorite for large, heavy rugs but it seems the carpet dealers no longer carry them. The dura-hold pads works really well on both w/w carpet and hardwood or tile floors. I've only had problems with one that buckled, or stretched, in one area but I solved the problem by cutting a wedge out of the stretched area and taping it back together. I think you'll find your rug will look and feel better in addition to lasting longer. Allison's link shows 3 nice pads....See MoreConfused about flooring.... (Super confused.)
Comments (17)Floorman here 40 years experience professional installer First. You have a bigger leak under floor if it buckling. Sound to me you would be better to have vinyl plank installed instead of wood. If you want a professional job it will cost you $10 plus for wood and labor no furniture. Labor alone is $5 in Missouri. The cheap hardwood is all going to be soft easy to scratch. Vinyl plank would be cheaper. Labor is $1.50 to $2.00 sq ft. Its glue down or it can be loose laid if you buy that type. If a peace gets scratched easier to replaced even for DIY but that peace will have to be glued. Vinyl plank looks like real wood now days. Water won’t hurt it as long as not a major leak. If your on concrete for wood or vinyl a moisture test should be taken first to see if there’s any hydrostatic pressure if there is it shouldn’t lay either one would have to fix problem first. With vinyl plank if it is glued you might need 1/4” underlayment on sub floor. But loose snap in vinyl plank you shouldn’t need underlayment. If your floor is wavy so will the vinyl plank look. Just my advice....See MoreRelated Professionals
