Washer and Dryer for 2nd floor : help wanted - confused
Comments (11)I've had a Samsung front loader (and dryer) for 2-3 years now. I love them. I have split level house and they are installed in the bathroom in the upper level. Also the bathroom and 3 bedroom are all at the end of the hallway so there is no more than 10 feet from the washer to any of the bedroom doors. The machines is quiet. I have no hesitations about running it when someone is sleeping. It's actually quieter than my old top loader (which isn't really saying much because that was so loud you could hear it through the whole house). If I'm at the other end of the house someone has to walk to the bathroom to tell if a load is done (because I don't usually have the signal on). I also love the vibration reduction part. My MIL and sister both talk about not placing stuff on their front loaders because it will get bounced off as well as the frequent walks the machine takes. I put things on mine all the time and nothing gets bounced off. Also the machine doesn't walk at all. I recently had to move the washer to get something that get pushed off the back by the kids. The machine had sat in one place so long it was "stuck" to the floor. I love the Samsung, I would replace it in a heartbeat with another Samsung if this one broke....See MoreArea Rug Pads Over Hydronic Floor Heating
Comments (3)High quality and high-density rubber is your best choice. If I recall SCI and Foamex are two brands in North America. Living in the apartment/condo means you probably do not have control over the fluid temperature in the floor so be aware the carpet and pad will reduce the heating output. This may or may not be an issue for you. The Radiant Panel Association has an info page on this topic. Comments (7)I just blithely did a little search for you sue, thinking I would come up with all sorts of options, & I'm really dismayed to discover that the felt pads of yore are....well, just that....yore :( I have several pads made of felt & horsehair that I've had for many, many years - I had a huge horsehair pad that I just keep cutting to fit smaller rugs. And I expect them to last for many more years. Which is why I haven't had to shop for one for a long time. Everything now is synthetic, but the good news is that you can still find synthetic felt pads - hopefully they are no less damaging to your floors than the felt pads are. Still, check out your local rug dealers - the ones who sell area rugs, & see what they have. The problem with most synthetics is that they bond to your flooring & create damage that can be very hard to repair w/o resurfacing. And/or the pad is too thick & the carpet gets dents that turn into worn fiber. And/or the pad does nothing but keep the carpet from slipping & ruin the floor underneath at the same time. BTW, if your carpet is a thick one, you're probably better off w/o a pad. HTH, & good luck!...See Moretotally confused about rug pads! help?
Comments (7)We use both felt and the dura-hold pads. The all felt pads are my favorite for large, heavy rugs but it seems the carpet dealers no longer carry them. The dura-hold pads works really well on both w/w carpet and hardwood or tile floors. I've only had problems with one that buckled, or stretched, in one area but I solved the problem by cutting a wedge out of the stretched area and taping it back together. I think you'll find your rug will look and feel better in addition to lasting longer. Allison's link shows 3 nice pads....See MoreJbrig
