Ever tried Lysol Deodorant spray? I got that tip from the Home Decorating forum, I believe and it works wonders on stains on my carpet from pets, etc.! Just spray it on heavily, wait a min or two then dab or scrub the stain! Hope it works for you!! Linda--you're so right and so funny! Animals aren't color cued to food but people sure can be. As a 'side', my mother was discussing the notion of 'Green Eggs & Ham' as per Dr. Seuss' story and my Dad just sniffed and said it didn't matter to him what color his food was--it was just plain "stupid" to think it would matter to anyone!! I'm sure you have an idea of what happened the following *breakfast*--yep--green eggs and blue biscuits! And, yes, he did eat it all but he had to admit, afterwards, it had a decided effect on his ability to 'scarf it down', as usual! My mother could hardly restrain herself from bursting out laughing as he ate it! Pretty sure, my cats and dogs could care less about the color of their food--but, apparently, the marketing folks believe it affects our decision (as though we'd be eating it) as to what our pets would like to eat! You know, they're probably right--we're so VISUAL you know! :o)

Havent dyed any carpet but I have painted with regular spray paint and with regular water based paint. Lots of the home shows do it. Always test first. Some synthetic carpets take paint funny. Also easy does it. Too much paint will turn hard. Sometimes I thin my paint with water. Ive never used the liquid dye because dye needs to be rinsed out so it doesnt bleed onto other stuff. Once the paint is dry it doesnt come off. WE've all gotten paint on our clothes and we know how permanent that can be. :-)

Oxiclean...straight from the spray bottle...is the only thing that works with my cat's carpet "contributions"...and she's getting on in years so her "contributions" have grown of late. Unfortunately...you've already applied so many "remedies"...including vinegar which may have set the stain rather than doing what you wanted it to do...that you may need a professional's opinion. If your carpet is 100% nylon...you have a better chance of removing the stain. Nylon doesn't absorb color the way other carpet fibre does. Any other fibre and you may be stuck with the stain now. What type of fibre is the rug made of? What type of tile is it sitting on? Vinyl? Linoleum? Cork? Ceramic/porcelain? Stone? What type of tile is it sitting on? Vinyl? Linoleum? Cork? Ceramic/porcelain? Stone? any kind. It is very difficult to properly set the dyes. It takes TREMENDOUS amount of rinsing and chemical 'setting' before the fibres have rinsed clean of the excess red. And by doing all that to red dye you loose the intensity = no one wants to buy the product. If this were a silk shirt, I would soak it in tepid water with table salt (enough to salt the bath water as if it were soup stock). You let the salt set the colour for a few hours. I would rinse with cold water until the water runs clear. Salt might not be easy to remove in a rug so I would suggest working with white vinegar. Again, you will add 1-2 litres of vinegar to a bath full of water (the water must completely cover the run in the tub. Again, simply let it soak for a few hours. Rinse with cold water until the water runs clear. As you can tell this is going to take PLENTY of water. If the rug is of a lower quality/price (less than a few thousand dollars) then you can always take it out to the driveway and 'hose it down' with cold water (again doing so until the water runs clear). Or you can try drycleaners who specialize in rugs or oversized pieces.
