My concern is that I have 3 children- ages 10, 12 and 19 and entertain often. I know all floors will scratch - I have hardwood floors(all original) in LR, DR and bedrooms. I'm not putting hardwood in the family room because it's on a slab and I don't want to raise the floor.

My question is how easily do these floors scratch?

The salesman said they are quite durable and will scratch if you rub with a key or knife, but who does that any way.

Will they scratch if someone is wearing a shoe that doesn't have a rubber sole on the bottom? Will walking on it with high heels scratch it?

I also realize that darker floors will show the dust more easily. I have dark furniture so I'm use to that.

Armstrong bought Bruce hardwoods so the products overlap. If its laminate be aware that there is no repairs possible. If you buy engineered hardwood scratches can be repaired and the floor can be recoated easily.

I have had it now for 16 months and it looks like the day it was installed. Keep in mind that I don't have younger children, only a 20 year old son and I rarely entertain large groups. My cat also has been declawed.

However, we LOVE it. I would never go back to carpeting ever. This floor is a half-inch thick which is perhaps the most wear-resistant laminate on the market. We only have one small damaged spot where my husband dropped a china plate and after it broke, the sharp edge hit the floor and there is a tiny (and I mean tiny) scratch. It took some people a long time to find it and a couple people never did see it. Of course, I know it's there :-(

High heels are the enemy of any laminate OR wood flooring. No one should wear them in your home (how rude!) unless they are on carpet or tile.

Darker and glossier floors show dust and smudges more easily. But I'm a high gloss gal (all our woodwork is high gloss) so I would rather have that than matte any day. The color is GORGEOUS and as you saw it looks realistic. We had a contractor in the home last month and he thought it was real wood flooring.

I had the funds to do real wood but I didn't want to spend that kind of money to do 1300 square feet. And, boxers is incorrect about no repairs possible. If something happens, there is a repair technique to remove just that one board and replace it and you would never know. This floor costs the same as a good quality carpeting but will last 3x as long with no recoating/refinishing necessary.

Another reason I decided on laminate was that it doesn't fade. I had talked to so many people who had rugs down that couldn't move them around cuz the floor under them was a totally different color. You can also damage wood with dings and scratches as well. How many people with hardwood floors do you see sanding them down and redoing them but maybe once in their lifetime? That is another additional cost to putting down hardwood.

I think you are going in the right direction with looking at this floor because it looks so realistic and you need that with the "real stuff" in other rooms.

Susanlewis, thank you for the update on your floors. I still love your floors and the Pradoo Laminate was a very close second to the Brazilian Cherry Floors I chose. As I said in my prior post, I chose the engineered wood floors since my little Maltese was afraid to walk on the large Pradoo sample I had here that I fell in love with since I love floors with orange and reddish brown tones to it. My Brazilian Cherry floors darkened a little bit and got to be a richer orangey brown color with some boards reddish brown that are beautiful but I feel the Pradoo Laminate would have have been just as beautiful and maybe not scratched so much.

susanelewis- Thank you for answering all my questions. Our floor was installed this weekend and it looks beautiful. Does your floor move or creak? My floor does in a few spots and I'm a little concerned. We haven't put any furniture in the room yet. The installer followed the directions that the store said. Our concrete slab is even. The salesman told my contractor to place a plastic layer on concrete, then place a 1/4" plywood on top, then a layer of "the silencer" which is a foam layer that is suppose to stop noise, and finally place the tiles on top. So I don't know what the problem can be.

There are a few creaks here and there but it doesn't bother me. They are only in places where I think our house has settled and they creaked there with carpeting.

I'm not sure what you mean by move.
