I saw this thread last week maybe it may help. We only have one tub and I have some mobility issues. I never would attempt to climb in and out of our tub so I use the shower. DH wants to install one but I am afraid it will look too hospital like. Here is a link that might be useful: Walk in tub

As my mother was aging, I was looking out for some good options in the area of walk-in tubs, as due to her increasing age she is getting less agile. But personally speaking, I was never much in favor for installing walk-in tubs, as I felt those are really waste of money and ultimately occupies your bathroom space in no good way.Walk-in bathtubs usually have a watertight door on one side that allows someone with limited mobility to step into the tub without having to climb over the side of a standard tub. But one my friend recently installed these walk-in tubs from Safeguard Tubs, she highly recommended that to me. Though having no alternatives I went by her suggestion and installed & I must say it was worth every single penny. The best part was it had non greasy floor and support bars which acted very helpful to my mother and left me tension free. Definitely a good deal to crack !

Keep in mind with these type of tubs you have to get in them first, then fill them up, and vice versa when you want to get out.

In her last couple of years (90-92) Mom so wanted a bath. There were two problems with that. 1) Since she couldn't bathe herself, she had a bath attendant who came in a couple of times of week to help her. (Medicare pays for this BTW.*) This nice lady was efficiency itself: in the tub, sit on the shower bench, on with the shower, get everything washed, out and dry, dressed, and back to bed or sofa. No dilly-dallying. 2) Mom was simply not capable of sitting down on the bottom of the tub, much less getting back up, without someone standing behind her and lifting. I'm quite sure she couldn't have stayed in a walk-in tub long enough for fill and empty. It made me sad, but this isn't something we could make happen. *Political pitch, ignore if you don't want to hear it: Paul Ryan (#1 guy in House of Reps) is suggesting that he will "push through" the dissolution of Medicare in the first couple of months of 2017. This isn't something new, he's wanted to do this for years. The idea is that those of us currently on Medicare get to keep it, but our children will be funneled into a program that will pay a "subsidy" towards a private insurance program when they hit 65. Do you think any of those private deals will pay for a bath attendant or the podiatrist who comes by the house every couple of months to clip elderly toenails? With his party in charge of everything now, Ryan is very motivated to push this through. He says that Medicare isn't solvent because of ACA, but he knows it isn't true. ACA added 10+ years onto Medicare's solvency. Having just joined Medicare this year, I can't tell you how much easier it is to deal with than my previous group insurance plan.
