Help with everyday stuff

OK, mom died on 2/28. I have moved past the grief, as much as I can. I am currently staying at her house,but am not receiving her mail. I have spoken to the station manager and asked that all mail be delivered.She was adamant in her will that all bills (hospital, etc) be paid, but the local rural carrier decided not to deliver the mail. I have not received the bill from the hospital, or any correspondence from her insurance companies. I know these bills are out there, what do i do?

I had never heard of anything like this, but when I mentioned it to a colleague, she went through the same thing when her parents died. Even though she was the executrix of the will and all, she still had to file papers and go through the legal proceedings to deal with her parents' mail.

Clearly, the local PO near me either doesn't know of my husband's deceased status or of the rules that prevent delivery of his mail to someone else. Or it may be different because I'm his wife and have shared the same address with him for years.

I'm sorry you lost your mom. I had similar experiences with the post office before my mother died when I tried to hold and pick up her mail when she was too ill to go to the post office. It's frustrating.

Have you found out from the post office what you need to do to collect her mail, act on her behalf?

Hey dethcheez I dont have any of the seeds you are looking for but I did buy some exploding cucumbers from plant world. They look to be great fun for the unsuspecting visitor...lol. The University of Florida says that portulaca grandiflora is only occasionally bothered by mealybugs. Other than rot due to excess water, this was the only disease/pest mentioned for this plant. Mealybug is a common pest of hibiscus, however. I would decide upon an acceptable control method that is safe for the hibiscus (systemic, biological, etc.) and then apply that to the purslane. Meanwhile watch your hibiscus closely to nip any infestation there. There is also a pink mealybug infestion in South Florida. The literature I read indicated there is no control for it and plants infected by it must be destroyed. Wishing you success - June

Any stored clothing, as in woolens? Could be carpet beetles. But that's just a guess until you can post close-ups. Adult insects go toward the light because they "know" it's the way out. The problem is that no one told them about windows.

Like Karencon, I also use the WONDERFUL homemade formula advised by GW folk: At the time I posted my inquiry about it, the formula was 1/4 cup of 70% isopropyl alcohol, 2-3 drops of Dawn, and enough water to fill a quart spray bottle. I use it on everything in the kitchen: granite, marble, SS appliances, cabinet hardware, the porcelain drip pans on the range top, the SS faucets--and I've even been known to swipe my new cabinets with it. The secret to streak-free cleaning, as others have said, is to use a microfiber cloth and just enough of the solution to barely dampen the cloth; too much and it doesn't work as easily. When you wipe it onto your counters, the alcohol makes it all evaporate and the dirt stays on the cloth. If you use too much, just use a dry part of the cloth to wipe away the remainder. When cleaning the countertops, I very lightly spray them with the cleaning solution. When cleaning the appliances and small SS items, I spray a bit of the solution onto the cloth.

Who is the exector of the will? That who will be in charge. I think the PO cannot deliver any mail because of legalities--I will check with my PM, as she is very knowlegable. You might contact the hospital, maybe they can send the bill to you (or in care of). It is not up to the carrier, but the PM. Ask him/her for clarification on the rules. They have them in the office. By the way, before you pay anything, including medical bills, talk to an attorney. If you pay one thing, you are lible for everything. Hospitals and medical offices are aware of the so they will wait. Nothing gets paid until the estate is settled. Again talk to a lawyer ASAP.

All of these kinds of things are duties of the personal representative/executor. They are part of the "settlement" of the estate. If the named representative/executor doesn't know how to do it, they usually hire someone to advise them how to handle it, which can be an attorney or anyone else familiar with the procedures.

Are you the representative/executor? Wondering if perhaps you are not and that person has left instructions with the PO to hold mail for them or deliver it to them instead of decedent's address.
