I came here tonight hoping to find some info on this coffee bean too. I saw it on Dr Oz's show. He seemed to think favorably about it. I went to my Dr.'s today about another matter and asked him what he thought about it. (I take diabetic medicine, blood pressure, cholesterol and thyroid medicines) He said it was completely safe, however there is a lot of caffeine in it, so if it makes me nervous or my heart races to stop taking it. He said I could be his guinea pig and let him know how it's working. I don't know where to buy it, I was going to search on the internet. Hope someone responds that is taking it! Ruth Ann

The flaxseed I get is from COSTCO & contains, according to the label: organic flaxseed oil(Linum usitatissmum)(seed) 1300 mg. omega 3 (alpha linolenic acid) 780 mg omega 6 (linoleic acid) 156 mg. omega 9 (oleic acid) 143 mg. Contains: anchovy,clupea,salmon,& sprat according to the label. I am taking two capsules a day. I am going to try the fish oil capsules now again for a couple of months & see if my LDL & triglyceride levels decrease from when I was on flaxseed. For some reason my doctor had me switch to the flaxseed. Seems every month or so another idea on these comes out & very confusing!

I've used the parafin based niacin; I think it's also called nicotinic acid. The therapeutic effect takes place between 1500mg to 3000mg/day. With me, 2500mg works. I use the Enduracin product. Must take it with food. I take 1000 @ breakfast, 1000@lunch & 500@ dinner. I had to build up to it: 250 1st wk, 500 2nd & 3rd wk, 1000 2nd month, etc. The oatbran book by Kowalski mentioned it and that's how I learned of it. Been on it since the early 1980's. The great thing about it is it raises the HDL (good chol), reverses blockages & lowers total chol & the bad LDL. Diet does not solve the problem, because with most of us, our body produces it no matter what we eat. I was disappointed in first 6 months: my chol. dramatically increased....but that was because the chol was being released from the tissues into the bloodstream, for destruction by the liver. I think the niacin uses up the bile, and the liver pulls in cholesterol to make more bile. Not sure why it works. When started, my total chol was over 400, the HDL was 11, and LDL was up off the charts. After 9 months, and to the present time, my tot chol is 104, HDL 50+ & LDL less than 40. It's a nuissance, but it works. REMEMBER, regular blood tests & consult with your MD.

Donna, Side effects do not affect all people. My father and DH are both on Vytorin and neither has had a single side effect. I, on the other hand, seem to often suffer side effects from meds. Antibiotics always make me sick (supposedly that only happens to 2%) and my allergy medication makes me dizzy, so I take it at night only. Until you take something there is no way of knowing how it will affect you. DH had a cardiac work-up last year. They ran a bunch of blood tests (sorry, don't know which ones) and did an EKG and a treadmill stress test. I had to push to get them to do the stress test. "I'm afraid if I see a cardioligist he is going to run a zillion tests on me." What's wrong with that? If my insurance would pay for a brain MRI I would get one. I say, anything noninvasive, go for it. The typical cardiac tests are less invasive than the ones for Crohn's disease. In terms of alternative treatments for cholesterol, my SIL uses grinds flax seed into a banana yogurt shake she eats for breakfast. I remember her cholesterol dropped after starting that, but I don't recall how much (it must have been at least 20 points or I wouldn't remember it).
