Differnce between MD or DO?

Can anyone tell me the differences in the DO and MD? I am looking for a Dr. and the closses on to us is a DO. To go to a Md. it's in the next town a 1/2 hour drive. A normal day I don't mind the drive but I am thinking of when I am sick do I want to travel that far when i don't feel well when I have a Do down the street. I am limited on my choice of Dr's in my town because of health insurance.

Originally they were two strikingly different schools of thought on mecidine and therapy (in the ealry 1900s). Today, for all practical purposes, they are the same.

If he's close and covreed by insurance, make a trst visit.

I agree with lazygardens, most DOs (in my area at least) are MDs. The big difference between the two is that a DO looks at the "whole picture." Some use holistic type methods some use chiropractic methods. My ortho is a DO and I love the fact that if I have back problems he will do an MRI if needed, treat the pain and find out if other areas are causing the problems, not just toss some pain killers at me and tell me to come back in 6 months if I still have pain.

Free huge rhododendrons in Baltimore MD

Free to good homes: one or both of two huge, beautiful rhododendrons with lavender blooms. A landscaper has said that they are not old, are healthy, and are worth a large chunk of change. However, I can't move them and don't want to pay nearly $500 to have the nursery do it. So the shrubs are free for the taking by anyone with the muscle and the truck. Access is easy through the alley, and you could pick them up anytime between now and Thursday evening, when they must be gone. Otherwise, on Friday they are history, sad to say. Please call me if you would like them at 410-366-4094 or 443-690-0042. Thanks!

Serious about a gunite pool in MD-need any help I can get

Our pool is under construction so I'll just tell you what I was told (northern Virginia): 1. Heating: want the water warmed fast? propane. One builder said he only uses his heater in the spring; opens the pool and burns 400gal propane to heat it up and he's done for the season (allows him to open early). Everyone we know has propane so I can't speak to a heat pump, although a lot of builders I talked to pushed them. Our friends nearby with propane love it because if they have a pool party on a chilly day it heats the water quickly. 2. Decking: we are doing aggregate. I do not like pavers (although they do look nice in pictures); we have a perennial garden with pavers and it is a maintenance nightmare (it's about 10 years old). Ants, weeds, shifting, you name it (the grass & weeds out here are on steroids or something: they will destroy anything). We really need to have the pavers re-sanded / pounded down or whatever one does in this situation. Anyway it was enough for me to veto pavers around our pool. Sundek sounds nice but I've never seen it and I believe it is expensive in this area - but if price isn't an issue check it out. And report back :) Good luck!

Onion varieties in MD

Neither Ailsa Craig nor Walla Walla are known as long storing onions, but they are known to be sweet. I think you are far enough north to grow long day storage onions. There are lots of types available. Get your hands on a Stokes catalog or check out FEDCO in Maine, everybody knows about Johnnies and I like Jungs in Wisconsin, too. Like farmerdill says, storage onions are not the kind you eat out of hand like an apple, they are primarily meant to be cooked. The best storage onions are the yellow multipliers also known as potato onions, which are grown from sets, since they almost never seed. Most suppliers ship these in the fall. They tend to be smaller than most types of seed onions, too, but they have been known to keep over to a second spring for planting, but only if properly cured and carefully stored and not something to count on. They do make very nice braids that can be hung in the kitchen and will outlast many of the garlic braids. Nice decorative and functional touch all at once. Once you have enough of them, you will both keep your own seed stock and cook with them.

What do you know about MDs vs. DOs

To be clear, there are first tier, second tier and third tier medical schools. They do not all ”teach the same thing” or even teach the same way. To pass the medical boards the same knowledge is required, but the passing grade is lower than you would expect (across all specialties, including internal medicine— which is a specialty) because of the sheer volume of information covered. Students who attend top tier medical schools have a higher pass rate. Some boards can be taken multiple times. I personally know a physician who took his boards five times. He was personable and everyone liked him. He went to a decent school. His outcomes were not the best, and obviously none of his patients knew he had failed his written boards four times. When people say ”I have confidence in my doctor” they are really saying they like the doctor and that “confidence” is usually based on nothing more than a friend’s recommendation, not any kind of information or evidence.

How Does an M.D. Differ from a D.O.?

M.D.s are similar to D.O.s. An M.D. is a physician trained at a standard four year medical school. D.O.s receive the same four year medical school education but with the osteopathic philosophies tied into the basic principles of medicine. D.O.s also receive hundreds of hours of additional training in manipulative medicine techniques and diagnosis. Upon graduation from medical school, D.O.s continue with residency training in any of the medical specialties, from family medicine to neurosurgery.
Otherwise there are few differences; M.D.s and D.O.s have the same practice rights throughout the United States. You can find D.O.s and M.D.s working together in the best hospitals and clinics throughout the nation. D.O.s are also found in all branches of military medicine -- in fact, a recent Surgeon General of the U.S. Army was an osteopathic physician.
