How should we tell our parents we are pregnant? Should we do this with a gift? Or just tell them?

It might be nice to make it a celebration, invite them over, serve refreshments then make the announcement.

Either way you handle it, they will probably be excited and pleased with your news.

Please tell both sets of grandparents on the same day. Your husband's parents will be every bit as excited as your parents will be.

I am familiar with Swedish weaving, but have never attempted it myself. I love its look and have a few tea towels given me by my mother, whose friend did it. It was pretty popular decades ago, and all the examples of it I've ever seen were done on a material known as huck. It was the same stuff one saw in those big towel rollers in public toilets. LOL. When the roller towels were replaced by paper or forced air, huck cloth nearly vanished from the market. I went to one of the fabric chain stores and tried to get some cuts of it, but was told it would have to be ordered by the bolt. That's a couple hundred dollar proposition and God knows I don't need that many dish towels. LOL. I am going to google monk cloth, perhaps it's the same thing? Surely similar if it were appropriate for Swedish weaving. I hope you give this craft a try. I love to see the old techniques preserved. My mother used to tat when a child and I am still finding old shuttles in her sewing baskets,tins and machine drawers.

elsacoon, All I do is go the garden centre and follow my nose. They all have different kinds of fragrance and since frangrance is so personal - it's best for you to experience that for yourself. You could also contact the Royal Botanical Garden because they have the world's largest collection of lilacs. They recently had a sale but you can still visit their site. I had one (white) that has a fragrance reminicent of jasmine. I wish I had kept the name but I hadn't. Lots of regrets there.

Shee, I am much older than you (59) and cannot get my recipes organized either. I have an old metal index box full of hand written or typed recipes people have shared over the years, and drawer full, a drawer full, etc. Many are folded pieces of paper. Since you don't cook a lot or don't like to cook, if I were you I could get once nice box and recipe cards and hand write them. I bought my DD and DIL a Longaberger recipe box and the Longaberger cards. I went ahead and bought the liner for it and an extra pack of recipe cards. If you get the large one, it will hold a lot of recipes. It makes a lovely little accessory for your countertop, or if you don't like "stuff" on your counters, it takes up very little room in the cabinet. I see that it is being retired soon. Better get myself one - I am so bad to buy for others, and not spend money on myself! I use the same old faithful recipes most of the time, so this box should hold all the favorites. I am sure you can also find something similar at a much better price in the home stores. I also have lots of cookbooks. My favorite cookbooks are those sold by local clubs, organizations, churches, schools, etc as fundraisers. Living in a small town, I know most of the people who have recipes published in these books. My favorite is one compiled by the local Woman's Club in the seventies and my favorite recipes are those submitted by wonderful old ladies, most of whom are gone. My butterscotch pie recipe is from a little old lady I knew as a teenager - it calls for butter the size of a walnut. Was probably passed down to her as well. sunnygardenerme, I truly, truly understand how you feel in regards to your DH's children. I am really sorry for what you have to put up with and contrary to many post I've read where we can read that : " some day they will realize what you have brought to their lives...", I don't really believe in that. After 18 years as a SM, it doesn't matter what I do, what I've done or what I would do for DH's oldest daughter, she would not appreciate it and she would not thank me for it! I know, I've been doing it for 18 years. But about a month ago, I said : that's it! Had enough. I've completely disengage from this person and I am so proud of myself for it. It always hurt me that she never called me on Mother's Day, on my birthday, at Christmas, etc. etc. People used to tell me she will one day. Ya right. She will be 27 yrs. old in a couple of days and I haven't seen that happening yet so I am not holding my breath. sunneygardenerme, in order to really not let your stepchildren ingnorance bother you on Mother's Day, you do something special just for yourself on that day. Buy yourself some flowers and place them where everybody can see them and if anybody ask why you got these flowers tell them : '' you are never better served but served by yourself" and on this day you are celebrating what every other woman in the world who has children in her life, whether they are stepchildren or not, is doing! Yup. We had my parents (local) over for Easter dinner and told them during the appetizer course.

We told her parents (non-local) during a telephone call earlier the same day.

We told my in-laws by wrapping up a mother's day gift. It was a grandmother's journal. It took MIL awhile to figure out what the significance was. She just kept saying "but I am not a grandmother". Meanwhile, my FIL eyes lit up because he understood our message. Finally, MIL stops dead and says "Are you pregnant?" and became hysterical. She was so excited. The woman is 66 and has waited forever to become a grandmother. Her daughters are 41 & 43 and won't be having kids, so she was counting on her son and I. Also, my MIL's sister has 11 grandchildren, so she has been feeling left out in that area.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun breaking the news to them.

My daughter just told me that she thought she was pregnant and then I went to the doctor with her. That was 2 yrs. ago and when she came out of the doctors office she was crying tears of joy.

My daughter and son-in-law told us at Christmas. They gave me a gift that when I opened it had the home pregnancy test in it. Duh! At first I had no clue what in the world it was!!

Lets see my DD woke me up in the middle of the night laughing and crying waveing a pee stick in my face...LOL she was so happy she couldnt even wait till morning with the news.. It was a great way to find out .Shareing the news no matter how you do it will be one of the best times of your life no matter how you do it.

Saw this post and thought I'd tell you what we did. I found out I was pregnant right before mother's day in 1997. So I sent "Happy Mother's Day to a Wonderful Grandma" cards to the grandmas. (since mom and dad are divorced, I had to send him something, so I sent a 'World's best Granddad' pillow.

So they all got a wonderful Mother's day present that year, as did I!!!
