Dad's old lawn mower....or confessions of a mower abuser
Comments (27)I guess I'm the Dad in this case! I do remember having an el cheapo power mower (person propelled) when I was a kid (red and perhaps Western Auto) and using it for everything - a field at the rear of the house comes to mind... one day it was 3 feet high, the next it was "lawn". Anyway, everyone is always dumping on Craftsman tools and power equipment. I'm still using my Craftsman Eager One, 5HP, Tecumseh engine, that I purchased in 1984. I don't recall it ever failing to start except when the switch I installed to replace the dead-man handle died. It smokes, uses oil, but still cuts better than my $500 Troy-Bilt. At the beginning of the summer, I ran over a rock and bent the blade so that it was actually digging into the ground. Had to replace the blade plate and blade, but didn't faze the crankshaft or the upper crankshaft shear pins. The only maintenance I've ever done is occasionally replace the air filter, less occasionally replace the spark plug (do clean it annually), and change the oil. I think it is coming to the end of its long life and really hate the thought of getting rid of it. It really needs a total engine rebuild (chassis, etc. is still fine - no rust but lots of scrapes), but I just don't have the abilities. JimC...See MoreQuality Sleeper Sofa
Comments (22)Dear NYC LOVER, When I read your original posting asking for advice on a sleeper sofa/chaise I was happy to see it was the exact same thing I am looking for- style, size and everything! It's funny because I actually just came home from Jensen Lewis where I found the Cadet by Cerrito. It is the one I like the best, but it is just so expensive. I saw one at Macy's- Portofino by Max Home for only $1200. It seems comfortable and has a great flip-flop chaise so you can switch sides, but I am scared of the quality and I can't find much information about it online. I wonder why some couches are close to $4000 and others are only around $1000. I am very curious to know why you chose the Tyler by Carter. Did you see it at Jensen Lewis? I looked at it online and love the look, but what are the dimensions? I couldn't tell from the website. It seems like it might be 117" with the chaise. I can't go over 110." Also, you mentioned you saved $1000 over retail. How? Do you know if it is possible to find the Cerrito sofa online for less? I must decide soon if I should just buy the Cerrito or keep looking. Here is a link that might be useful: Max Home sofa...See Moremade in china
Comments (70)I dont approve of chinese labor and it has nothing to do with the quality... which is spotty some good and some clothes had a sleeve that wasnt fully attached! Most people just assume its the same as it is here with federal regulation protecting their workers... but you can find reports by children like age 13 talking about how they have to work 16 hours a day 28 days a week and get promised pay at the end of the year and only if they work till then, and beatings for unsatisfactory work. An people either say they are happy for the work they do get despite suicide nets or just put it out of mind and say well it was bound to happen as if their money is paying to keep those children under the heels of borderline slave labor camps.. because minus the "promise" of distant very low pay and that is what it is, people have gotten far to comfortable at passing the buck, and pretending like they didnt contribute to those horrible things. Change starts with you, everything you do matters and yes even when its inconvenient....See MoreRowe or CraftMaster Sofa which is more durable
Comments (64)We have been trying for 3 years to get our Craftmaster furniture repaired. We purchased the warranty and the recommended cleaning products. We had a claim where we needed to have a spot cleaned and the warranty company sent someone to look. She used scissors to cut pieces off of our sofa, which was coming apart naturally. Since then, there are now holes in the upholstery. We have sent photos and repeatedly called asking for new fabric and have been refused. When we went to Levin to buy new, they said our couches were so new and should have been great quality from that manufacturer and offered to give us contact info before they would let us buy new furniture. They were shocked and appalled that we were denied service after our experience. We will never recommend this brand again! (Photos to show damage and the whole piece. We obviously take good care of our furniture)...See Moreblue_velvet_elvis
