My Lychnis coronaria, 'Angel's Blush' tended to bleach out to mostly white with a tiny pink eye. Mine tends to seed a lot. Helichrysum are nice and easy to dig and pot up in the fall or root cuttings to keep over the winter. I wouldn't rule it out for being tender. I actually prefer and have better luck with Plectranthus argentatus 'Silver Shield' and Plectranthus coleoides ÂHeigh-Ho SilverÂ, though. They have larger, fuzzier leaves than the helichrysum (which tends to die on me) and are very easy to dig up or root cuttings over the winter. I also grow Russian sage, and it overwinters fine. So does Moonshine yarrow. I also grow Silver Edged Horehound (Marrubium rotundifolium); and it has overwintered just fine, too. It is a shorter plant. Nepeta (or catmint) would be another good choice. I have 'Walkers Low' and 'Six Hills Giant', which both grow 3 feet tall. I also have 'Little Titch', which is very short - the foliage is like a mat, but it flowers a little taller. Arabis also has early spring white flowers and interesting gray foliage - like a mat. My Stachys byzantina 'Helen Von Stein' (lamb's ears) looks just like the posted picture. I also have 'Silver Carpet' which has the same size leaves as the species, but doesn't flower. I also have Blue Oat Grass (Helictotrichon sempervirens), which has nice blue foliage. Does Artemesia ludoviana 'Valeria Finnis' really not spread at all, or does it not spread quite as much? I've never grown it, but I've seen a flower border edged with it, and there was a lot. (Of course, maybe the owner planted a lot!)

I'd be glad to send some to anyone who wants them...just for postage costs. The only other thing (elephant ear) I really have extras of right now is White Knight. I threw away zillions of tropicals earlier this year to make more room for my succulent fetish.

I gotta say yes, they should be one color. Some people would say that since people frequently match gold and silver jewelry at the same time, what's the difference. But I think the hardware should be consistent--in style (ie, not mixing round doorknobs with egg-shaped doorknobs) and color--because it's a foundational piece of the decorating. Even if it takes a bit of time to be able to afford having everything the same, it's worth it. It is one of the basic investments in your home. Changing out the builder's grade dull brassy doorknobs to brushed aluminum colored was one of the first things I did to my townhouse (and the main level is also one open space). There are some faucets on the upper levels that are brassy, but those will be replaced if I get the financial opportunity to update those bathrooms. (Also, there will be many people who disagree with this, but I think that guests, and later potential homebuyers, will notice the inconsistency and think it just looks wrong to their eye, kind of cheap.)
